Just venting about freeloaders

Not much point to this thread besides venting

last year when i went on deployment I made an arrangement with a friend to stay at my house while I was overseas. He was still living in the barracks on base at the time, but his GF was moving here so he needed to get his own place but didn't have Basic Allowance for Housing yet. So we agreed, they could stay in my house & take care of it while i was gone and when he started receiving BAH (housing allowance) he would begin paying me rent.

INSTEAD, he stayed there for 5 months and moved out before i got back, 3 months of which he was getting paid BAH, and never paid me anything. Got a puppy w/o telling me that pissed and pooped all over house. I got 5 letters from my HOA about my lawn not being mowed, even my neighbors complained about it (luckily my nice neighbors took care of my yard after they left)

I get back to find my carpet stained, door with paint ripped off all over from clawing. chewed up and scratched door frame molding, and my closet wreaked of puppy crap (my personal closet, in the back of my bedroom)

He moved out 4 months ago, i'm trying to get just 1 months rent $500 and cost of repairs and cleaning $150. NOPE, he wants to only cover half the carpet cleaning and nothing else. $50...then he dodges my calls and won't answer my messages when i turn down his 'offer'

since he's military i get in contact w/ his Chief so he can put his guy in line. INSTEAD, he plays protective father and says w/o a written lease agreement he doesn't give a damnbut he will pay for the repairs

technically, w/o a lease he was breaking and entering & squatting but I don't think i'm gonna play that card.

Lesson learned: get everything in writing, because people take advantage of nice people

I hate to hear that he took advantage of you like that. Some friend he turned out to be. I wouldn't dream of staying at a friend's house and not offer to pay. I damn sure wouldn't let a pet of mine ruin their carpet.

I hear ya man. I would say talk to your first shirt but sounds like they may not give a damn unless you tell them it will place you in a financial bind if you don't recieve the agreed upon amount.

Well there is always the option of knowing someone outranking him to hurt or ruin his career.

Ya, I'll be talking to my legal officer when i go to work. Probably won't go anywhere.

Whats odd, is that he seems to think i'm screwing him over. and his GF thinks I'm an a-hole. so i told her "I'm glad you enjoyed 5 months of free rent in my house while i was deployed overseas. That while I was working 85/hr weeks and paying a mortgage for a house you were living in w/ no job and no bills."... than she said something about being 'mature adults' (she's only 18 mind you, they're both just kids and take zero responsibility) and said to put it all behind us...convenient for them
