well..this SUX!!!
After a weeklong break, gasoline prices are ready to climb higher again. Surging wholesale gasoline prices should push pump prices to an 18-month high and put drivers in many parts of the country on the cusp of having to pay $3 per gallon for gasoline.
Wholesale prices jumped 5 cents Friday and that should mean retail prices of at least $2.87 per gallon in the next couple of days, the highest level since October 2008, said Tom Kloza of Oil Price Information Service. Oil prices have doubled in the past year as various economic indicators and a surging stock market suggest the Great Recession is over and that energy consumption will improve, especially in emerging markets such as China and Latin America. Gasoline prices tend to move higher with oil prices. Also in the spring gasoline demand typically picks up and more expensive blends are produced to meet anti-pollution requirements. The Energy Department and a number of analysts expect average retail gasoline prices to top $3 a gallon by summer. Pump prices have been mostly flat for the past week. The nationwide average was $2.854 per gallon on Monday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service. Prices have risen 4.8 cents over the past month and are 80.2 cents higher than a year ago. The government's Energy Information Administration will release its weekly price survey later Monday. Though it may not seem like it, drivers actually have been getting a break at the gas pump. Oil prices of $80 a barrel, about the average cost for crude so far this year, typically mean a pump price of about $2.90 per gallon, said oil analyst and trader Stephen Schork. With crude prices currently at $85, "I can't see how we don't get to $3 on a national average," he said. The reason it has not so far is because demand for gasoline continues to be weak, he said. Oil prices eased on Monday after jumping Friday. Benchmark crude for May delivery fell 94 cents to $84.18 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Earlier in the session, it rose as high as $85.63. In other Nymex trading in May contracts, heating oil fell 1.41 cents to $2.2364 a gallon, and gasoline dropped 1.41 cents to $2.3390 a gallon. Natural gas lost 2.9 cents to $4.228 per 1,000 cubic feet. In London, Brent crude gave up 61 cents at $86.64 on the ICE futures exchange. |

Don't get me started on soaring gas prices...while there are many additional factors, I believe to this day, that gas prices were one of the MAIN catalysts for the economy going in the toilet...

Yea....and if demand was high there would be a shortage and prices would be even higher. I'm sick of hearing this garbage from the oil industry.
Oh...and don't forget...another refinery fire last week just before the travel season starts and an oil rig sunk off the coast of Louisana. And gee whiz....don't forget the normally scheduled closures of refineries for maintainance that happens every June. Guess what??? All of these predictions are LOW and they will use the aforementioned to raise the prices even higher than those predictions. Bookmark this info and watch what happens in July. Its cheaper to stay home and barbeque the most expensive beef you can find. Of course, they will then use the low demand as an excuse to raise the prices even higher.

Consider yourself lucky to ONLY be paying that for gas! I've been paying $4.20 for a gal of premium for - well years!
Hell if ours was ONLY $3.00 a gallon I'd stand at the pump and put a gallon in and pour a gallon on the ground just cause it's so damm cheap! |

damn gas is cheap in the US. Try $1.05 just for midgrade a litre here in Canada. Would be very damn near $4 a gallon. Don't matter though, this is the wrong car if you're worried about gas prices.

love. my. car.

And did everybody forget about $4/gallon gas prices already? I survived when I was paying over $4/gallon and my truck supposedly gets a combined 2MPG worse than the SS camaro. So I'm not too worried about affording $4/gallon again as long as I get some pay raises here and there
But I sure would love to fill up for $20 a tank like it was when I started driving 10 years ago...

Been over $3 in Utah for quite some time....we're #4 in the country in gas prices, despite having 5 refineries 15 minutes from my house.
Gas prices are fixed, have always been fixed, and always will be fixed. I don't even look at the price, I pull in, fill up, drive out...built the cost of gas and maintenance into my budget before I bought the car, and it certainly wasn't gas at $2 a gallon.
