Heater Core

Has anyone had the heater core break or malfunction in your car?

Its suppose to be a major repair requiring the removal of the windshield.

If mine fails I will just bypass it, I don't use it anyway.

I had a '79 Camaro and I replaced the blower motor and the heater core on that. The recommended procedure was to remove the fender so you could access them.

Luckily I was able to get by without having to do that, but I do remember ripping out the whole HVAC enclosure with the bolts that were on either side of the firewall, and just barely remembering how to put the whole darn thing back together again. I was in college at the time and doing these repairs at my mom's house, and every hour or so she'd come out and bring me a cup of coffee as of course, I had waited until it was freezing out to do this whole fix. Thanks mom.

Seems they haven't taken a hint on design and have made it even harder to replace components that can easily fail. Yippee, good thing I got the extended warranty, hah hah....

Yes, my 2010 suffered the Heater Core issue. It caused a "rustling" noise whenever I was accelerating hard. There was even a TSB issued for it on the SS models.

Make sure you take it to a good dealer though, cuz my HVAC system hasnt been right ever since they replaced the Heater Core.

Lets hope someone comes up with an alternative, like cutting the bolts, or dremel out slots.
Hate to think of the windshield removal when the warranty is up.
This is not a do it yourself job.
