Camaro 2LT vs BMW 328 vs Audi A4

Hey guys, I'm about to get a new car for college, and since I will be paying for most of the car myself, with help from my parents, I was wandering which is the best every day car for highway commutes and overall drives. I know this is a camaro forum, and I'm leaning mostly toward it because of its looks, performance, and it being the lowest price of all, but my parents, although they say it's my choice, say that I would regret the camaro in the long run if it gets too much unwanted negative attention. I just want to know what you guys would think. And the Audi is a 2007 that I'm thinking of and the BMW is a 2009 if it matters at all for my choice. My price is about 31k max (not including taxes).

thanks so much guys

If it were me choosing which it is not, I'd probably go 328i, Camaro 2LT, A4, in that order. The BMW is a great driving car. The V6 Camaro is awesome too and the quickest of the three but not in the same class of refinement as the BMW. I never cared for how the A4 drives even with Quatro unless one needs awd for winter.

@67MellowYellow: Yea I'm planning on test driving the bmw in the next few days, can't wait lol. Just curious, would you take a SS over a 3 series?

Any other suggestions?

Camaro V6 should be your only choice here. Its not the purchase price that will kill you on the audi and bmw, it's the maintenance costs (foreign parts). Couple that with the fact that you'll be pretty much anonimous on the road (pros/cons) and that you'll probably paying through the nose on insurance given your age for the other two cars since (see maintenance costs) they cost more to fix. I have a V6 Camaro and an LR3 (land rover) and I pay through the nose everytime something breaks on the Land rover (for instance it was $2000 for a heated windshield that I've actually used maybe 10 times). I know its not a one for one but the Camaro V6 is an excellent value. I recommend getting an 2LT/RS though because the headlamps and rims and spoiler are worth the add-on and the automatic is worth the money as well.

Hmm I guess you do have a point there. I was wandering why the insurance was more for a honda accord than the camaro lol.

And I am planning on getting automatic, but idk about the rs package. I love the halos, but the other things I'm not too crazy about. But the man thing is that it comes with summer tires, and for ny, I'd need to spend another 1000 for the wheels. I guess I'll see what I find on the lots.

I love the performance of the LS3 Camaro and could not afford a comparable BMW. If I was choosing a daily driver with 6cyl and auto, the BMW gets the nod for comfort and refinement but the Camaro is great too. Drive as many cars as you can and read the reviews and the choice should become obvious to you as to what works best.

Just so you know, you get free maintenance on bmw up to 50k miles... BMW start breaking AFTER 50k miles. Unless you have a LOT of money for maintenance, BMW and Audi are going to drain you. I wasted up to 20k in maintenance on my S-Class Benz (Benz in 3rd world country with bad road = bad bad idea)

Just a heads up. Camaro is going to be the most fun, eye catching and cheapest option for you.

Alright thanks, you guys pretty much have made up my mind about this. I'm thinking if i should even bother test driving a bmw lol. So I guess I can take an expensive, used, old, and semi boring car or car that I always wanted that looks slick and is cheaper on insurance and repair... tough choice lol.

Camaro all the way vs a 328i. However, you might consider an used 335i coupe, that is a great car to drive and fun performance. Of course you will still have a generic-looking BMW and expensive maintenance once the warranty expires, but it will significantly outperform the 2LT. At stock, the 335i should still hang with a SS (although the SS should beat it). However, you can do an easy chip/tune to really bring out the performance of the 335i.

For my price range, the 335i is too much, and even a 2007 is too much. I can get a camaro ss with everything I want for the same price. And buying it before that is already hard enough, since the warranty will be too short and I don't want a heavily used car. But thanks for the suggestion
