Maybe that should be Afternoon Delight, if anyone can remember that popular Starline Vocal band song? Lol. Cars from that time can get a bad wrap, but there were some worthwhile things from those days like GM's radial tuned suspension (RTS) and ESC ignition, and some interesting rides. What notable cars can you think of from those years?

Vega's were ahead of their time - period. The Monza stole its image when it came with a V8 but hey that was the 70s. Now the early 80s cars were the junk piles not the 70s models until you got late into the 70s.

My favorite car from the 70s would have to be the Heavy Chevy with the 454. Beautiful car and nice power.

I owned a 70 Monte Carlo that I loved ripping up the roads with.. I also owned a 78 Nova that was nothing nice, and I mean that in a good way.

Lots of fun!! Granted I owned both of them in the 80's cause I was to young to drive in the 70's..

KC and the Sunshine Band.. That's the way uh huh I like it!! LOL!!

My first car was a 72 Ford Maverick grabber 2d with the 302. I had a love/hate relationship with that car. Looking back I didnt really appreciate that car much. That and a 79 Subaru station wagon and a 77 Toyota Celica were the only cars from the 70s I have owned. I paid $1000 for the Fordv(1 owner perfect original condition w/50 k miles), $350 for the Toyota and the Suby was a free hand me down. All this took place in the late 80s.

My dream car is a 1970 to 1972 Buick GSX with the 455 engine. It was actually faster then the Chevelle SS 396, handled better and had more luxury.

As with the decades before the 70's, most of the cars in the 70's had styling personality. The main problem with 70's cars was the introduction of federal emission standards. The 1st generation emission equipment installed in cars at the time reduced exhaust emissions but they were inefficient. Compression ratios in car engines were lowered to help reduce emissions too. The combination of inefficient smog/emission equipment and lowered compression ratios meant LOW horsepower. A late 70's Z28 only had 180 horsepower.....from a 350ci engine.

Cars also grew in the 70's and generally had poor handling. Many of the large sedans literally felt like land yachts going through water.

My first car was a 1978 Camaro Type LT, so 2nd gen Camaros will always be cool to me. Many people will strongly disagree with me though.

I got my drivers license in my parents RX-4 back in 75.
I drove it off and on during school and college, until the apex seals let go at around 90K.
I probably contributed to its early demise

Plymouth Superbird? ~1970 IIRC. They were ugly as sin, but good performance.

70 was the last year for the Detroit HP competition, but there were some decent designs yet to come. The plastic fascia was a tough pill to swallow, I guess the powers that be decided that was better than seeing those big ugly 5mph bumper accumulators.

There are a lot of awesome cars from the '70s that I'd love to own. GM had some really great styling back then.

The 70's were good for cars up to about 1974, then it all turned to shit.

Cars from the 70s and only one vehicle comes to my mind.

1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6, Red with black stripes and black vinyl roof. IMO one of the most bad ass looking cars to ever come out of GM.
