4th gen Camaro looks dated, the 4th gen(98+) Firebird doesn't.

Fun story
Before I bought my Camaro, there was an '02 WS6 6 speed in mint condition at a dealer about an hour away for 13K. It only had 30,000 some odd miles on it, and had a clean carfax. I was drooling over the thing, but it was sold out from underneath me before I could get to it. So I saved for a few more months and found a good deal on an LS3 SS that wasn't pulled out from underneath me |

They can be made to look decent and perform well. But the moment you drive one it feels like a extremely dated hatchback with all the squeaks and rattles they have. I can appreciate them but will never own another.

My Trans Am memories...
Back in 2001 a friend of mine had the local Pontiac dealership locate and trailer back to Iowa a new Red/Tan leather, 6 speed Hurst-equipped, T-top, polished wheels WS6 Ram Air Trans Am from Texas. As a front seat passenger, I remember a giant HUMP in the foot well that limited leg room. When we put it up on a hoist in his shop and examined the underside...I remember he was upset by how flattened down the exhaust tubing was. And this particular year had the round dual chrome exhaust tips which looked odd in those oblong shaped opening in the rear fascia. In previous years they offered nice oval shaped cast aluminum exhaust tips that looked great. Not bad mouthing the car, just remembering we were a little disappointed with some aspects of it. Another friend still has his 1989 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am Indy Pace Car, the one with the turbo V6 borrowed from the Buick Regal Grand National. He bought it in 1990 with less than 2,000 miles on it. He only brings the car out a couple times a year and it has less than 20,000 miles now. It's a t-top, leather car...it squeaks and rattles a lot and rides like a lumber wagon on it's original Goodyear "Gator Backs", but it's still one of the quickest cars I've ever ridden in. I always refer to it as "the evil white car" because it seems no matter what "NEW FAST" car I would buy over the years that Trans Am was always faster! This same friend currently has a C63 AMG sedan as well - it's ridiculous. Cool cars.

I've always wanted 02 trans am in black. I had the opportunity to get one years ago, but it needed some work. Its funny though even to this day me and my dad both say should have got the Trans Am instead of the 2001 camaro.

The styling was a bit too "batmobile" for me. Too many wings and scoops on the 4th gens. And I never liked pop up headlights. The last year of Firebird that I liked was 1978.

Those v6 Grand national trans Ams are awesome. When i ordered my new ,91 formula the dealership my father worked at had that anniversary model on the show room floor. It was there for quite a long time, until a guy cane in and paid cash for it and took her home on a flatbed.

I always liked the 1999 TA Anniversary Edition the best.

My first car was a 76 Trans Am... I love that car. I bought it for 3200 dollars. A lady in Wilmington had let it set so many years in her garage that the tires had dry rotted. I bought it and put another 2,000 in it. The car was the fastest car I have ever driven. I agree with several of you. I have loved all the Trans Am body styles.

Sold our black with tan interior 2001 WS6 to get the 1LE. I liked the WS6, but the handling of the 1LE is so much better, I never looked back.

My mother had a 78 too that was Bright Yellow with White Leather Interior with t-top. It was such a pretty car. She came out from dinner with my Step Dad one night at the Comedian Buddy Hackett looking inside her car. She said he was pretty nice but said he knew that had to be a woman's car.
