Here are some articles regarding electrolysis and heater cores. This is what I was talking about in my earlier post.

I picked up my car from the dealer this morning.

First let me say the guys at Paradise Chevy in Temecula were great. I got a fully loaded 2012 GMC Terrain (not a Camaro, but not bad) for the week while my car was being worked on. They called me every day to give me updates on the progress. Overall another great experience from them for me.

Everything seems to be fine. In addition to the heater core, they had to replace my windshield. The weather stripping they said was damaged when they removed it. So they needed to replace the whole windshield. That’s fine by me as I had a couple of very, very small rock chips.

I was a bit leery when I heard what is done to replace a heater core. You know how it can be once you break the “factory seal”. If you missed it in an earlier post, they need to remove the whole dash and the windshield to replace heater core...gah.

Again all looks fine, but I will listen for squeaks and wind noise.

For now all is good in my little part of the world.

Glad everything is OK so far. Do you know if they had to replace the carpet? The heater core seems to be a common issue with modern cars, not just the 5th gen Camaro. If I ever have a problem with mine, hopefully my dealership experience will be as smooth as yours.

Hmm its not a good sign when the heater core is leaking on such a new car, I hope its not a common problem for the Gen 5's.

I just replaced my heater core a few months back in a Holden Commodore (Pontiac GTO, im from Australia lol). Had to take the whole dash out. Took me and a friend 12hrs.

No they didnt replace the carpet. But it did say that they had to remove, clean reinstall it. Funny I checked everything really well the night before I took it to the dealer and found nothing damp. So not sure if it was wet before I went to the dealer or after they had it and did their tests. They did state that coolant was in the HVAC and also needed to be cleaned and to replace the filter.

Yes I have had that same issue. It was a horrible smell blowing through the vents when the heat is on. I took the car into fix it and it was heater core. The ticket says they replaced my passenger side carpet and fixed the issue. The smell is still partially noticeable and I asked if the air filter was changed and they said no and they would have to charge for that. Wait, what?

But a far worse issue is that the windshield was not put back in correctly. The minute they brought the car out I said you could see it's not even in right plain as day.

Even worse than that ... turned the defrost on and water shot all through the vents into the passenger cabin. I couldn't even believe it. And can you believe I called this in to customer service more than a week ago under a ticket with additional issues and still nothing.

If I knew how to post a picture or video of it I would. Water just all over the dashboard. Worse thing ever. How sad is that?

I'd take it to a different dealership. You know when you have found a good 1 when they keep you informed & do the repair right the 1st time.

I want to take it to another dealer! The only other dealer I trust though told me he can't keep eating repair costs after an issue came up with my clutch that they covered when GM didn't. I have called every single day about this. Apparently I have been assigned some district person. Does he ever call? Nope.

Two long bolts in the sub frame will not come out as they hit on the windshield.

CammieChix, I'm terribly sorry to hear about these issues you're having. Could you send me your case number so I can look it over to see what we can do for you?
