2013 ZL1 Production Numbers?

It appears as though it is Chevrolet's plan that there will be somewhat less than 3,000 2012 ZL1s produced, or less than one ZL1 per U.S. Chevrolet dealership. If that, in fact, turns out to be the case, it is likely that there will be some individuals who want a ZL1 who will be unable to procure a 2012 ZL1. Therefore, the next logical step in the ZL1 progression is to look toward 2013 ZL1 production.

Scott, do you have any information that you're willing to share with us regarding Chevrolet's plans with respect to 2013 ZL1 production numbers, for both the coupe and the convertible? Is it the plan that 2013 ZL1s will be available, in general, as customer sold orders without any additional, ZL1 specific constraints?

If I have to wait until 2013, I'm just going to wait for the new 2014 body style! BUT if I can get a 2012 I'll do it.

2010 Camaro SS modified extensively. I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)

Where has it been officially stated that the 2014 Camaro will have a new body style? I don't think it's likely that the Camaro will have a new body style until the 2015 or 2016 model year.

That's right. By 2014MY we should get the new LS engine that goes into Corvette too. I think this is ZL1 is just a two year run before the new one.

I just finished watching the dealer webcast and yes, there will be less 2012 ZL1's produced then there are dealerships.

The ZL1 is ordering in like 5 days and we still don't have many facts from GM, so nothing is official ever...

Motortrend says the new camaro is slated for 2014 per Grant Thronton LLP and CSM Worldwide (http://wot.motortrend.com/nextgen-ca...#ixzz0ecuKgXe9)

autonews.com states 2014: http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dl...#ixzz1TDeYgeWl

Thn according to GMinsidenews.com, the platforms being launched for the 2012 ATS (Caddy) and the 2013 CTS (http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...we-know-92357/), so the camaro can't be too far behind there either.

In fact, moderncamaro.com has photo proof of it accidently being leaked on GMs website as part of the gm.com's montage (http://www.moderncamaro.com/forum/5t...illac-ats.html)

They can't wait until 2016 because of the new Cafe standards, so 2015 at latest.

So in short, the LATEST it could be is 2015, but most likely it will be 2014... so it seems like as much of a valid acceptance than any other speculation.

The last time I heard, 9% of all 2013 Camaro's will be ZL1's

What was your source for the 9% number?

That number seems about right to me. If approximately 80,000 Camaros are sold and that 9% number is accurate, then about 7,000 ZL1s would be produced in 2013.

I'm sorry, I can't remember where all I have heard it, but I HAVE heard it enough times to where 9% is the number I remember.
If I come across it again, I will be sure to let you know.
But I DOES sound right, 3000 will be produced for the second half of the 2012 model year should = 6-7K for a full production year.
Everything that has come out today from Chevrolet says "GT500 competition" so to me that means, a LOT of ZL1's!

2012 MY is only going to be 5 or 6 months for the ZL1. Why is anyone surprised to hear that there may only be 3000 or so cars?
