GM just has a faulty synchronizer setup for 1st to 2nd and they just haven't fixed it, so they give us this bull**** answer in a service bulletin.

THAT IS CRAZY. If they did that to my car, I'd probably go to jail from baseball batting their whole lot of cars. UNBELIEVABLE they could do that to you.

My 2010 is in the shop for the exact same problem.
been in 2 weeks and they tell me they need to order SPECIAL TOOLS to remove the trans!!! WTF!!! We need to find a way to get GM to make this a TSB or a RECALL. There are numerous people here having the same issues. forgot to add 2600 miles on the clock.

Mine does it at slow speeds. It's always the 1-2 shift. Thought it was me at first.
That transmission take apart sounds like a real nightmare. It is possible changing the shifter could allow them to void the warranty. They can blame the situation on the shifter and get away with not repairing your transmission. What I might do is put my stock shifter handle on before I take it in the dealer. The Barton lets you have either.

Dealerships or shops can not perform paying work with out written permission from the customers ok, if they do then by law the customer is not responsible for any money owed! Take your receipts to your lawyer and start a suit to get your money back, dealerships should know better than that!

my issue with that is i bought the car from a chevy dealership, it had most of the work except gears and suspention already done.....thats how i bought it i had a problem and now everyone said im on my own, plus like i said #1 its a divored shifter (cable driven) so how can i have a problem with only 2 gears grinding and not all of them, #2 i stated to them at the dealer to check into the grinding noise, they ripped trans out of the car and dissasmbled...never even calling me to tell me what they were doing. and one of the first things you need to do is disconnect the shifter. so why didnt i get a call at that point to tell me , you have an aftermarket shifter and if this is shifter related you will not be covered... and # 3 the shop that is fixing it immediatly found bad syncro and gears when they went through the bin of internal trans parts the dealer left me with. how can you be allowed to take my car apart, trans, clutch, exhuaust subframe connectors and dismantle entire trans stuff all the parts into my interior, scratch and dent my car charge me storage and tell me to f#$k off.....it aint right..not to mention when the trans was hanging i now have a radiator leak, prob pulled on the hoses but still. its bs... after 3 diffrent gm reps and all the bs run around i was left to take the pieces and go find someone to put all back together

By law don't they have to prove that your bolt on's caused the gear grind? They would need 100% proof of it to void a warranty claim I thought. Wouldn't the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act apply here? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act

BTW...I don't know about it in other states, but here in California if you don't SIGN the authorization to have the work performed or give verbal consent over the phone, it is ON THEM! They also have to fix the problem within the cost of the written estimate and nothing over 10% of that. In California you call the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR), that usually gets the dealers attention real quick.

2nd to 3rd always grinds for me until she's warmed up. I tend to shift from 2nd to 4th for the first few miles til she's ready. Not happy having to do this workaround, but i'll be visiting my local guy come springtime after she wakes from hibernation.
