Summer Tires
Living in the Midwest and taking delivery in January/February, do I need to be concerned about driving my new Camaro home in potentially zero degree weather, even on dry roads? I know I will wait for a clear day and clean roads, but I read somewhere that summer tires can crack at low temps when driven. How will I get this thing to my garage!?

Do not use summer tires when it is below 45F. AS/Winter tires are meant for cold weather driving as their compounds are different than summers.

Owners manual says 40 degrees you lose traction, 20 degrees tores can crack.

Congrats on the new car!
If you do drive the car home in cold weather just be extra careful and avoid potholes or other hazards. The transportation crew and dealer probably had to drive it in the same cold weather to load and unload the car from the car carrier. If it is bitter cold and you have a long way to drive then maybe discuss options with the dealer or wait until better weather to drive it home. I drove my 2LT/RS in winter with the Pzero summer tires on rare occasions. Traction was OK at best. I wouldn't choose to drive like that every day. |

Thanks for all the advice. I would just be driving it directly home about 1 mile honestly. I just wanted to make sure this would not be some huge mistake and I would drive it into the garage and see shredded tires! haha But, yes, once it is in the garage it will sit there until about April unfortunately.

Any reason you know for sure you are taking delivery that late?

Dont worry about it. It wont cause damage and it wont destroy the car. Dont be special with the throttle and you want have any issues.

No reason other than pessimism! I figure the car will get built in mid- December, then a Christmas slowdown...then a couple weeks of shipping...?? Either way, even December is less than 40 degrees around here. It was only 38 today!
