Solo J-pipes/stainless welding?

Hey guys,

Ok, I need some advice. I just received my new Solo J-pipes that I want to install on my Borla S-type exhaust. Here's the (potential) problem. I have 2 exhaust shops in town and I ASSUMED that either of them could weld 304 grade stainless steel. NOT the case!! Ugh.

I know that many of you have already done this and are happy with the results. Please help!!!!

Thanks

Find a new shop. You can weld stainless with a regular mig welder just fine. It may look a lil bubble gummy or not be exactly perfect but no one will see it any way. I welded my own jpipes to my pypes axle back with a standard mig setup using a 25/75 argon mix shielding gas and it worked just fine. I know ur supposed to use stainless wire and all that crap but in real life anybody that can half way weld can weld stainless to mild steel or stainless to stainless especially exhaust tubing with a regular setup.

Stop going to exhaust shops and go to a good welder/fabricator. They'll get the job done right.

You might also try contacting a shop that specializes in performance custom car builds. The shop I take my car to is one of those, and they have a lot of experience fabricating (and welding) custom exhausts. They should have no problem welding your stainless j-pipes.

I looked around few shops before going with local performance shop. I could never get the local custom fabrication place to answer the phone.
