That soon? I say that in another 5-6 years people will realize how un-green it is to throw away 700lbs worth of lead acid batteries per hybrid/electric car stop buying them.

But we get to have fun with it and drive it can’t ask for much more from an investment. Can’t drive your Bonds or stock portfolio.

You apparently completely missed out on half of my post basically explaining why a 1st gen was worth it (because of the net gain in value of the car, the rarity of untouched examples, and the "specialness" of specific models) vs a 3rd, 4th, or 5th gen model's possible gain in value due to the original MSRP, inflation, the fact there weren't many variations, performance, etc.

The golden age of muscle cars was a far different time than now. They were the fastest most powerful cars on the road, and held that well into the 90's thanks to smog regulations. These days you have high end sedans that can spank the average 4th Gen. Hell you have 2 versions of a Cadillac that can whip 98% of the cars on the road.

A dead stock 5th gen in 40 years is not going to come anywhere close to gaining enough to offset the time and space wasted maintaining it in a time capsule.

I admire original cars in showroom condition, but would not want to own one. My enjoyment comes from driving the car, not looking at it and detailing it for 6hrs every Sunday To each their own! Enjoy your new Camaro, however that is!

I don't really see how that's rare. I have the same package as do many others. It isn't like years ago where there were many more option combinations along with different engine choices.

dont think so Mike. Mine is. 2SS/RS 6speed manual That is the pretty rare but what makes it worth a whole lot 40 years from now is that I found a bottle of red wine taped onto the passenger rear wheel well. I don't plan on modifying the fender wheel at all. I am leaving it stock, red wine and all.

I've got a 1SS/RS/M6 too. Not that I think it's "rare," but there are significantly less 1SSs than there are 2SSs.

Even if it were "rare," it's not in a good way. It's "rare" because it has less options. The older cars that had more options are worth more than their less optioned counter-parts.

Not really. The 2SS is the most common model by far (b/c it's the best).

Value!?

Well one thing is for sure ! I DID NOT buy this car for someone else to enjoy or to cash in on it at some future date !. I bought it to enjoy it and that means gettin maximum performance out of it. That's what I am doing !!

Having a rare color or set of options is what brings the high dollars not that set of 24" wheels or wild sound system.

So enjoy all those wild mods, but make sure you can remove them and get it back to stock when it comes time to sell it in 40 years. Your kids will thank you for it! Maybe!

I don't know about you but I plan to drive mine. 6 years from now I plan to have 100,000 miles on it, and paid off. I will probably start thinking about making more changes at that time. As for worrying about my kids getting this car as an investment for 40 years from now, never going to happen. I would be better off investing $1000.00 into a mutual fund and hope it grows. to $32,000 using the rule of 7 (42 years from now).

I saw people who bought many models in the last 20 years thinking they would be worth more down the road. They are now worth half and they didn't even get the chance to enjoy them or drive them. To worried about preserving them.

When the Z comes out, my current Camaro will get retired and stored in a garage.

I have modded my car, but I save every part I take off, seal it up and put it away untill later.
