Optimum Shifting - LS#
Ok gents, here's a question I was pondering this afternoon.
I've been wondering - is there a specific RPM to shift in each gear? (I notice anything at / or above 3 rpm works smoothly) Obviously I've got the 1-4 shift for mpg, which I use (sometimes). But from 1-2.. 2-3.. 4-5.. etc. is there a recommended shift range? What about for racing? Just curious. :: 2012 1SS 6m :: P.S. How do I add a banner? I see you guys to that.. I wanna do it too! |

Right before redline if you're trying to go fast.

In the city you dont want to shift to low or else you will be lugging the engine and your MPG will actually suffer.
I find that i shift between 2-3k rpms, give or take. When racing, as Biscuitpie said, shift at redline JUST before the limiter. Anf by banner, do you mean signature? You need to make one..

lots of threads on this, and it completely depends on what you're doing, driving conditions, road grade or incline.
I slightly disagree with Comrando though, 20 mph in 4th? That's dogging the engine in my opinion. But I do commonly skip 3rd. My "good rpm range" for 3rd is overlapped so well by 2nd and 4th that 3rd isn't something I rely on getting me to 4th or 5th. I use 3rd on decel much more than accel I agree 100% that there's no need to use every gear in daily driving

I'm not sure if the gearing is the same for the v6, but just to toss it out there, I commonly shift at 2k when daily driving
1- 1-10 2-10-20 3-20-30 4-30-40 5-40-48 6-cruising time

Hi everyone
DarkwingT has an LS3. He had the 'shift' key held down when he typed up 'LS3'. The # is the symbol you get from holding shift and pressing '3'. He has a 1SS with the LS3 engine Just an observation

So do you guys really stay at say 2700 rpm for extended periods, just because you haven't gotten enough speed to reach 3000 rpm?
