Pics of taken apart stock radio
I fried my original headunit being an idiot and bought a replacement off a user on the forums. Tomorrow I'm going to get my replacement radio linked to my VIN, and I figured I'd swap the XM tuner to keep my current XM radio ID (hopefully, if it worked!)
Thought I'd snap a few pictures in case anyone is interested in whats inside. Left is the heat sink and fan to keep everything cool. Up top is the CD player section, and the bottom is the rest of the circuits. Sitting up and down in the lower right is the actual XM receiver. Here is the XM unit itself. This is the part that has the Radio ID, on the left is where the XM antenna connects. I opened the radios to try and keep my existing radio ID (I could have just called and switched, but hey...I like rippin shit apart!) Heres a shot of the heat sinks. Looks like they changed them, my 2011 is the smaller one, looks like they used a bit bigger one on my replacement radio, it came out of a 2010. |

Haha, guts/stupidity...my fiancee has differing opinions on what it is. Not my first time though.

Ha yeah, its not that big a deal taking it apart. Like Cap said, its just bolts really. Gotta be careful taking the ribbon cable out of the connector the right way, but not really a big deal.

Not sure many people will ever have reason to do this, but wanted to say that the XM tuner swap worked. I got the radio tied to my VIN yesterday at Grabiak in New Alexandria, PA (recommended!) and my XM worked right away.

There's a computer case fan in there? Good god...that'll last about 18 months.

I have case fans I bought 13 years ago that still work. It all depends on the manufacturer and the type of fan (sleeve bearing vs ball-bearing, brush-less or not).
