V6 Modifications, is it worth it?
The V6 packs a good punch, however if one were looking at beefing it up, would the power increase be substantial enough to warrant the money poured into it? I'm thinking:
- headers - new cat-back exhaust - CAI Will these mods push me over 400hp? I assume a tune is required on all this, but my concern is not the initial sum for upgrades, it's the major costs of putting in a new rear-end when mine blows, when my transmission wears out prematurely (it's automatic), etc. I assume all this will happen within a few years, but I can't find anywhere how the V6 powertrain holds up to increased power? Maybe someone can help shed some light on this if they've done? Thanks in advance. Btw I'm not doing a supercharger or twin-turbo though because the parts alone are around $6,000 plus installation. |

Can't do headers on a LFX V6, CAI, exhaust and tune will put you no where near 400hp. As far as breaking stuff because of added power, you'll be fine. Everything will hold up just great.

Without turbo or supercharger you aren't getting anywhere near the 400HP! Don't do NOS either!

Not doing forced induction means not getting over 300whp, as it stands. 323hp at the crank translates into like 260ish hp to the wheels, stock. Intake and air scoop help, ported throttle body helps, higher flow cats help, exhaust does little to nothing for our cars, tuning is big gains usually (call it 15-20whp typically), etc. You can make a V6 fast but you have to pay to play.

The bolt ons are def. worth it if you get a dyno tune, I got 30 extra rwhp after my tune.

Full bolt-ons will get you to around 350 horsepower. If you've got a Friday built Camaro you might be able to get to around 360... (you can get her up to 270 to the wheels on average).

270 RWHP will be the max you get from V6 bolt ons.
Our V6 drivelines are very robust and should be able to handle anything you throw at it. Unless you supercharge or TT to over 500 RWHP then your pushing it.

in the dyno thread there is a stock m6 putting down 284 and a bolt on w/ tune putting down 286. i would think 280 is very possible for anyone with a tune.

My number were assuming without a tune.... Until most peeps hit their 36K I think they may want to keep the factory warranty.

Besides, it is up to you if it is worth it. I believe that optimizing the potential in any car is worth it.

I don't yet have a tune, full bolt-ons with 278 to the wheels. I am honestly completely shocked that there is one stock motor on our dyno list at 284. holy sh!t! Magic dyno?
I hope to add an under drive pulley and get a tune and hopefully be at or around 290 to the wheels. I'll be a happy camper if I can pull that off.

Nowhere near worth it. Why pay $2000+ (full exhaust, cai and tune) for about 30rwhp when with an LS1 you can get easily get over 100rwhp for just over $3,500.
