I bet they have and that's why I think there won't be a 5th gen Z/28. There is no incentive for them to release one. There is no way to do it that GM is willing to. Using the LS3 would make it more of an SS update package and using the LSA would not make sense. The LS7 is either too expensive for them to give the green light or they don't want to step on the toes of the Vette guys.

IF (cap's/italix'd) our long-overdue Gen-5 Camaro Z(/)28 arrives, it will need to arrive prior to April/14, as the Gen-6 Camaro will bow, mid-'15...a year, roughly, after the renewed Stang. And my supposition is, Camaro would need at least TWO full production years to make the Business Case viable...

As to what would be a "bigger deal", BOTH will be BIG deals...and the magazine cover stories will bear that out.

Also, what a story it would be if GM's Z28 built on an older platform with an older engine outperforms anything Ford can build, on the track.

1. If GM builds the best 6th Gen they can based on GM powertrain and chassis technology they need not pay any attention to what Ford or any other company does. GM should lead and not follow.

2. The Z/28 does not need to turn a profit. It needs to move iron and not lose money. If the Z/28 can keep the utilization above the magical BE in the final year of production the line makes money even if the car doesn't.

Pete, we stand behind those ideas, no doubt. But is there the will within to do so, because they can, or will it be a cost versus effort situation? I'm for the "show 'em what we can do" philosophy, like I perceive you to be as well. But, since the General is on the move with cafe and restructuring on the event horizon, can the Team again be given the opportunity, resources, and decision making to carry on and bring in the Z/28 that we have been clamoring for? It's there for the taking. We believe it can be done. In the end, it's up to the powers to be.

If GM builds it is a big if. I think the Z/28 that was laid out here was a pretty solid car. It uses existing parts to keep costs down but they didn't build it. From what LOWDOWN says, it seems like they won't either.

They will have to do something to stay competitive with an aging product. They will have to do something to strongly market themselves. They'll have to do something powerful like Ford did to fight against the ZL1. They'll IMO have to make the Z28.

They will probably release more special editions that have no performance upgrades.
