Seriously, if you want to drive "competitive" shift at around 200-300 r's before the cutout. If you want to drive like "most" people, shift at around 3200-3500 IMO. If you want to be a *****, shift at 2000. Pretty simple.

I found that turning off the traction control helped with maintaining the shifting and jerking issue I started with. OP you might try that (hold down the TC button for over 5 seconds and you'll see the light come on). I'm also saving a lot more gas too it seems. I was 18 MPG on my first tank, the second is 18.4, and now I'm on my third. That might be because it's breaking itself in, or a combination of the TC and my ability to shift better (after not having a manual for over 10 years).

T/C should have zero bearing on fuel mileage.

Thanks Darkness, I was just about to ask the speeds at which shifting would be recommended.
I am also still learning on my 2LT. I got the same response but i was with a friend when he got his mustang. I enjoyed every second of him learning how to drive stick in rush hour downtown Baltimore traffic stalling, jerking and all. So after that I wanted my next car to be stick so I too could learn and be laughed at. Besides I kinda promised him that if I did get a stick that he would be shot-gun just so I knew how he felt. Still ever since I got the Camaro I haven't been able to stay out of it.

I still have problems starting off in 1st or 2nd. No not stalling or anything but the fact that I feel like it's taking off too slow.

Shifting manual tranny's are more of an are than a science. There is a great deal of feel and finesse required...

Your problem lies in getting your R's up a little more and "feathering" the clutch. That's the "feel and finesse"...

OR...
.
.
Take it up to 5k and drop the clutch each time you start. You will no longer feel like you're "taking off too slow". Problem solved.

To tell you the truth, in the city I usually shift 1st, 3rd and 6th or 2nd, 4th and 6th and some days just 2nd to 6th. The only time I use all of the gears is when blow the doors off a horse...

When you push the clutch in to shift form first to second, give it a tad bit of gas to get the RPMs up a little it will match the speed your engine with your tranny. The more you drive, you will learn what your RPMs would be at any given MPH for any gear. If you can match the RPMs to what they would be if you didnt have the clutch in, your shifts should be much smoother.

If I'm wrong, please say something, this is the technique that i use. Plus i leaned how to drive a stick on my camaro. I also try to avoid a 1-2 shit i usually go 1-3 or 1-4, but i also aggressively accelerate a tad
