One thing that I forgot to mention and to watch out for is when the change rod gets pushed up onto the shifter bushings. This should be a snug fit, but excessive force should not be used as the installer should avoid damaging the outer flanges of the bushings (first photo).

Lining up the hole through the bushings and the change rod end is critical. Forcing the cross pin through will only damage the bushings and create "wobble". The second attached photo shows some mis-alignment.

The installer can use progressively larger hex key wrenches (third photo) up to a final 10mm size (fourth photo) to help align the holes. But be gentle. Don't damage the Teflon.

The fifth photo shows a properly aligned change rod and bushings ready to accept the cross pin.

The cross pin should be a snug to slip fit but should not be forced through (last photo).

I'm sorry that the instructions in the box don't convey this level of detail however sometimes it's tough to get everything in there. These steps can be difficult since it's usually tough to see what's going on up in there (especially if you're under the car with little light), but I hope this helps. Just take your time and never force things... especially when it comes to these bushings.
Thank you for the pic's. I am going to put the new bushings in mine this weekend. I will post how it turns out.

So do the bushings cost anything? Also, if you can deal with the wooble (as I have been for a month now) can this or will this cause any damage to anything?

Also, is there a video on how it should look without the "wobble" IE anyone have a video with less "wooble" then the videos on this thread?

Contact Hurst customer service - if you've got your sales receipt for the original shifter then it shouldn't cost you anything.

Sorry about the quality of this video (and poor auto focus)... just did it quick and dirty

This shifter and bushings have approximately 12,000 miles and was a pretty well beat-up customer return. The trans is out of the car so you can see exactly how much movement is due to the shift linkage:

I've had same issue from day one as well. Considering, I've seen numerous videos of this problem with the Hurst shifter I went against my better judgement and had it installed becaue it was a gift. Needless to say I'm very disappointed, I hate the fact that is wobbles about 1/2", can't shift properly if the shifter is not centered properly.
The shop I go to has installed this in numerous vehicle including their own and they all wobble, although in this video it does appear quite accessive.
The stock shifter did the same thing except it was a little less than 1/2", so could be a problem with the GM internals (as usual).

I ordered mine last week, the guy was very helpful as I didn't have a receipt or could remember who I ordered it from. I should be here this week, I'm going to install it ASAP as I will have the trans out in the next couple of days for some other upgrades and maintanace
