I have ceramic tile. I paid .59/sf for it and installed it myself. I've had it for over five years, now. My verdict: it's one of the best things I've done in the garage. I've dragged 800# cabinets over it and rolled a 500# engine assembly on it perched on a floor jack. I use jackstands on it. I put the same tiles on top of the lift and they raise the car without any blocks or pads. The key is the way you install the tiles. You can't do it like you'd do for a kitchen or bathroom install.

Here's a video I post to show how strong ordinary tile is when it does not have voids underneath it. This is PEI 4 rated ceramic being hit with a 4-lb sledge hammer. If you click on the image to see the video, you'll notice the camera bounsing around from the impacts.

This was the first tile I ever set. At the time, I wasn't aware of $1/sf porcelain tiles, which would be even stronger. The nice thing about porcelain/ceramic tiles is that there is no such thing as hot tire lift, staining, or the epoxy dealer explaining that the reason you got bubbles (or it peeled up or whatever) was the fault of your slab. And if you do damage a tile? You just put a new one in. (I've never had to do that.)

So how do you install it?

Will post pics of mine within the month. Just got done with the LED recessed can lights, insulation, and racedeck free flow flooring. Next up is the rest of the cabinets which for my washing area are shiny red and my tool storage cabinets are shiny black and cover the entire wall. Will be very nice once finished in the next 30 days.

Well, where you can do a shower wall even a kitchen floor by hitting a few lines (or rows of dabs) of adhiesive and then just pressing everything into place, for a floor install you butter both the floor and the backs of the tiles. It's not rocket science (at least, I hope it's not), but you make sure there are no voids under the tiles. If it's solid ceramic/porcelain over (pretty much) solid thinset over solid concrete, then it should be a very solid floor. Like concrete, tiles are strong in compression but brittle and weak in tension.

(Full disclosure: I had never touched tile before that and haven't done a whole lot since. But the floor has held up to over 5 years of abuse so far.)

A new addition to the shop this weekend. I finely pulled the trigger on a 2 post lift, a Rotary SPOA10N 10k. I picked the Rotary asymmetric as the rotated posts allow the doors to open further which is a big help for me with the Camaro. Not as limber as I once was . Also the minimum pad height is 3 5/8" which was the lowest I found during my research.

Still finishing mine up but I am getting close. Ordered the upper cabinets that will rest between the two tall black storage cabinets at the front of the garage and adjusted the recessed LED canned lights but about 90% done. I am putting the Racedeck free flow flooring down in about a month to finish it off completely.

Entire floor is Circle Track from Racedeck.com. The best costs a few pennies more, but well worth it.
