Does going from stock 18 rims to stock 20 rims require a dealership visit?

I'm going from the stock 18's to stock 20's rims and tires. I called the dealership today to schedule an appointment and they wouldn't do it unless I allowed them to "reprogram" the car to work with the 20's. Of course this was at an extra 100$ cost to me. They claim that if I do not do this "reprogram" I will get ABS lights, traction control lights, and check engine lights. Now I've swapped out rims and tires on other cars and never heard this before. I figured my spedo would be off a bit and that was it. Anyone have any input on this...or is this just a shady dealership tactic to get my money?

Sounds like BS to me. The stock 20s with tires should be the same diameter as the stock 18s with tires.

I'd call another dealer and check. Keep those old rims for snow tires!

I also went from the 18s LS rims to the stock 20's SS and I have no problems at all, I even had a mechanic buddy ride with to make sure that i did not a Balance or anything else and it is all good smooth as silk and no lights they are feeding you a bunch of BS. BTW I like your Camaro!!!!

Youre dealer is a ripoff, The overall diameter of both are the same. The only think they would need to program are the TPMS, but you can do that for free using the cars DIC, The procedure is explained on the manual.

Also you need to make sure the 20" youre installing have TPMS already installed in them.

Good Luck.

Stock 18" 28.61"
Stock 20" 28.68" Front
Stock 20" 28.66" Rear

No reprogramming needed. They just want your money.

Thanks for the input...i was already calling BS on the reprogramming just wanted to be 100% sure. Gonna have the tires put on by the local auto shop for 30$ and program the tpms myself. Can't wait to see how it looks with the midnight silver 20's! hopefully I can get it taken care of this weekend.

I'm guessing the only thing you won't get is the speed limiter bumped up. The 20's have a higher speed rated tire than the 18's.
It only really matters if you want to go faster than 118.
