In addition to the previous comments about the Mustang refresh, its also supposed to be getting a fairly hefty HP boost with either a larger V8 or a twin-turbo V6 (more likely the V8), meaning that once the Camaro and Challenger are a year or two old, the Mustang will come out with some more serious competition.

Of course this only means good things if the big three keep trying to out-do one another...gotta love capitalist competition.

Actually 2010 (refreshed)Mustang arrives Spring 2009. V8 will be 5.0L with around 400hp to compete with Camaro. Full-production 2009 Challengers will be hitting the streets this fall. It's gonna be a pony car war, again!

It's going to be a great Spring (2009).

And GM is not worried about a 500 hp hemi. they have several engines that they can just drop in or make tweaks to to get that sort of power.
Of course.....I mean this is Gm here just saying if there is a 500+ hp hemi it would give us a edge aganist the top-dog stang and maro... not saying it would be best out of the three

Does anyone have any links to back up these claims about the Mustang refreshes?

Not the most reliable sources, just a quick Google search. The third link has a bunch of concept photos

I thought that was the original date, but it was delayed a year. Mustang will have to do with the 4.6L for 2009.

Reliable sources say It will be 2011 at least now. There may be a refresh in 2010 but no significant change to the car. Ford will have to sell price that year for sure.

To say the least of everyone here, even with gas prices high, it's good to see hp being talked about more than mpg.
It'll almost always be a battle between stang and camaro, its a classic war between ford and chevy. But the new challenger should throw an interesting twist to the game

Nothing new there. The Camaro has always outclassed the Mustang. IMO anyway.

Too bad for them, good for us. If that's true then they can't even refresh very quickly, can they? They'll be really out-powered when Camaro arrives then.
There will be no IRS included in Mustang refresh, maybe during the full platform change coming later, 2012?

5.0L V8 could return in 2010 Mustang

Posted Apr 16th 2008 3:56PM by Drew Phillips
Filed under: Sports/GTs, Ford, Rumormill

The pressure is on now for Ford, which has had the ponycar market to itself for the better part of a decade. With the return of the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, Ford will surely be stepping up the Mustang's performance when it receives a makeover for 2010. In an interview with stuff.co.nz, Bill Osborne, President of Ford Australia, claims that Ford is considering using a 5.0L V8 for the new Falcon - the same engine being developed for the upcoming Mustang. While nothing has been officially confirmed by Ford, this is further evidence that the 5.0 will be making a return since it was dropped from the Mustang back in 1995.

Assuming the 5.0 V8 will be available for the 2010 Mustang, there are many questions that still remain. It's possible the 5.0 could become standard, but it could also be reserved for use in a special edition Mustang like a Boss or Mach 1. There is also the question of how the engine is being developed. The simplest answer is that it will be based on the current modular V8 architecture and could be a stroked version of the 4.6L V8.

We would love to see something similar to the 5.0 V8 in the Saleen Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang that we sampled last year. With 400 bhp and 390 lb-ft of torque, it was a smooth and powerful engine that suited the Mustang well.
