Injen CAI filter clean

Was wondering if anyone can help me out on some tips on when and how should I clean my Injen CAI. i got the long tube CAI that goes to the bottom keep that in mind

I've used the K&N cleaning and lube kit for years. Done properly, it works quite well! As to frequency of cleaning, depends on your conditions. In dusty climes, every 5-7K miles is good.. in cleaner areas, 10K

Awesome! I will get the kit and do it can this be purchased at Autozone? I live in pretty dry desert souther cali lol. And have had it for about 15k so I need to change quick!

The cleaner does... yes. You just have to be gentle and let it air dry. No shop air....

Injen recommends blowing the dry filters out with shop air every 25K miles. Replace at 100K miles. But like Beawulf said dirty conditions require sooner cleanings.

I did mine at 13K and you couldn't tell the difference it was that clean still.

So just take the dry filter off and just blow dry it all out?

Yep, just use a shopvac on the dry filter!

Awesome!!! Is it possible to just use a hair blow dryer or need something more powerful?

Don't use a hair blow dryer with any heat at all. It will shrink the cotton on the dry filter and you will lose filtration

Ok what kind of dryer do you recommend me buying? Lol almost made a mistake!

well you can still use a hair blow dryer if it has a non heat setting. Otherwise it wont hurt to use things like a vacuum hose to suck dirt out, or things like that. There is no "exact" way to do it, just don't use heat.

I have a bit of an issue with the 25K cleaning interval Injun "recommends". One of the reasons the Injun works so well at increasing airflow is by using the dry filter. It does a good job of catching larger particulates but, that type of media, doesn't do well with the finer stuff. That's the trade off when using these types of filters. You give up some filtration to gain more flow. So, it is prudent to shorted the cleaning interval based on the conditions where you operate the vehicle.

It may also be a good idea to change to a "wet" type filter if you live in a very dusty environment and want to keep the car in top shape for many years. This kind of change will usually require a tweak of the tune to compensate for the lower flow.

Using a vacuum from the outside or blow dryer from the inside of the filter is OK. Just make sure your working in the opposite direction of the airflow. A little tapping and shaking doesn't hurt either....
