Any original ZL-1 owners waiting on a ZL1?

I know they are impossibly rare with only 69 made but it seems to me if I owned an original I'd have to have the modern interpretation as well. Any one here own some vintage iron? I know a few Boss buyers had, If not at the moment, some original Boss Mustangs in their life.

I have an original 69 ZL1. It is on the cover of Jerry MacNeish Definitive Fact book 4th edition. Jerry is a great guy and very knowledgeable with first generation Camaros. He is also an avid drag racer and National record holder for fastest "stock" 302 z/28. check out his web site.
The car is #17, and yes I tried contacting GM to obtain 2012 ZL-1 #17. The response was that they could NOT accommodate my request to get a certain number car. I have no GM connections like R. Hendrick. I placed the order back in October 2011 for a silver 6-speed, no option ZL1. Hoping I might get #17, I was able to get #44. With that said the cowl tag on the 69 ZL1 has the X-44 body code (COPO), so it's kind of cool that X44 represents something in my world. By the way 2012 ZL1 #17 was the first and only 2012 ZL1 on ebay. I did see it, thought about it, but passed because I really wanted silver car.

If by original ZL-1 owners, one means the individuals that purchased original 9560 COPO's when new in 1969 and the very early 1970s, I highly doubt that any of those individuals, and many are no longer with us, will be purchasing a new ZL1.

There is only one original owner who purchased a new ZL1 back in 1969 who still owns and races that very car, today.

Mr. Ken Barnhart. 1969 ZL1 number 16.

Ken purchased the car directly from Fred Gibb at Gibb Chevrolet in La Harpe Illinois.

It is unrestored, original paint as raced back in the day with necessary upgrades added throughout its racing career.

The car is valued at over $1,000,000.00 today.

Join us at Route 66 race way in Joliet Illinois for "The Super Car Reunion" and watch him run agianst the 5th gens and other Super Cars as well.

August 18th.

Glad the number did correspond somehow. That's brilliant that you will have both. The original ZL-1 along with the ultra rare Boss 429 Cougars (2 built, whereabouts unknown) are my ultimate Muscle Cars, and right below a GT-40 and an Aston Martin DBS in my wish list. I hope the ZL1 ships soon, and we get to see a report on how they compare.

Thanks for catching that. I was referring to anyone who owns an original car, never expecting there to be an original owner. Would not have known about him without this thread. Great bit of info. And another reason why I like to visit C5 as a Mustang fan as there's always a lot to be learned about the competing product, and the stories of the cars and their owners.
