Any Indy 500 gurus on here ???

Just a little curious, on the doors of the pace car used in 1991 it says "75 th" Indy 500 yet this year's Camaro has 100 th on the doors ??? Are they confusing the birth date of the track with the actual Indy race birth dates ??? Seems that I once heard the track is like 100 years old but the actual race is like 95 ??? Any Indy gurus here ??? Maybe give me the facts !! Thanks !!

It's the 100th year of the first race (1911-2011) but some where skippied during WW war2 I beleive, so it's not the 100th race anniversary.

I was born in Indianapolis and lived close to the track up until I was 10 or 11 years old so, the race means alot to me. The track was built in 1909 but, the initial races were short...250 miles. The first 500 mile race was in 1911. So 2011 is 100 years but, there were no races in 1917 and 18 due to WWI and also no races from 1942 - 1945 due to WWII. That should be 94 Indy 500's so I don't know what they are counting???

My pace car from 1991 says 75 th anniversary and now my 2011 Camaro pace car says 100 th....from 1991 to 2011 is 20 years yet they are showing 25 year difference ????

The 100th race is supposed to be in '13 if I remember correctly. That is why they are calling it the Centennial Era. Its been 100yrs but not the 100th race due to several years of no race due to wars.
