3.6 Rod knocking, need advise!!!

Does anyone know if the blocks are all the same on the 3.6LLT, as in can I use the 3.6LLT out of an all wheel drive Cadillac CTS or is it going to be different? And is say a 2014, 2015 LLT same as a 2010,2011. I know the LFXs are different.

2008-2011 GM LLT is the same long-bloke. Some will have different accy brackets and intake manifolds, but save all that for yours. Were you using oil? How often did you check oil? Also, finding a good LLT is getting harder as until 2014 there was no low oil level indicator and that causes a ton of failures. Make SURE you replace timing chain set if you go used. A new LLT is under $4k complete.

Yes. It is only the oil pan and the tranfer case/transmission that is different.

On your camaro, drop all out the bottom entire carrier w/engine all as one. Disconnect all harnesses and coolant lines (behind passenger side cylinder head is the bitch)

Yes it was using oil, It ran low twice on me, checking it about every4-5000 miles, I know now what a big mistake that was, I wasn't aware of the using oil issue at all. I am 2nd owner and 2 months out of warranty so it is all my problem now unfortunately. I stopped driving it as soon as I heard it knocking checked the oil filter and it is full of shavings. So now I have to decide if I want to go used or just rebuild. used would be quicker but Rebuild would be like new, it has 98,000 miles on it now

If doing the work yourself then get a good used low miles motor. I've found 10K mile motors for $1200 shipped. I think jacfab got one for 999. If your paying a shop to do it then it might be worth the extra money for a new or rebuilt motor with a warranty.

If I rebuild I will be doing it myself. I have been looking for a motor but about the best Ive found is 60,000 miles for 1700.00.

That sucks, hope it works out for you. I got in the habit of checking my oil every fill up. Scary stuff.

Does anyone know the level of difficulty in dropping in a LFX, is it a bolt in or are there mods that need to be done, I am sure the exhaust would need to be reworked at the head but other than that what would need to be done?

I know you will atleast need an entirely new computer system as the the tuning software for the lfx is different.

You checked the oil every 5000 miles ! Unbelievable!! I change mine every 2500-3000 and check it everyother tank of fuel. It takes 10seconds while pumping fuel.

Got the engine out and apart, all rod bearings were scarred but #6 was spun and paper thin. The main bearings and cam journals are all good. Does anyone have all the info/ specs for rebuilding without me having to drop 200.00 on a service manual?
