Against What Other Cars Do You See the Z/28 Being Marketed?
Don't shoot me because of what I drive. I am a muscle car fan, age 59. I lived through and participated in the muscle car wars of the 60's and love them all. But the Z/28 has a special place in my past and I continue to root for it being built again.
That said, I have been reading a lot on this Forum (great bunch of people who clearly love their cars) and it seems fuzzy to me what folks see the Z/28 competing with in the market place. The Challenger? The Shelby GT? The Shelby GT500? I am sure there are other examples. Back in the day, the Z/28 was a small block, lean car that put most its eggs in the performance basket with great results. How do you see it today? Jim

Definitely not the Challenger, unless you put the Z/28 against some sort of supercharged version. The only muscle car competition really is the GT500.
I think Corvettes (at least Z06's) and Vipers might still be out of the range of a new Z/28. I agree, I always assumed that the SS would be the big motor version and the Z/28 would be the track ready, race car version. Now my SS is the little brother, which is fine since I wanted to supercharge it whenever it's paid off anyway. At least this may mean I can go with a GMPP supercharger in the future!

It should fit between the Dodge SRT8 and the GT 500.
The big question is will the Z28 be released in limited numbers or mass produced, what are the projected production numbers for this car? |

What volume would you consider mass produced?

I think the Challenger is going to be getting a boost soon. Its top model can't compete with the Z28 and GT500.
The 1st gen wasn't as fast or as light as the legends that seem to surround them. No car from the 60's really. 1st gen cars with full interiors and big block chevy's with aluminum heads(which would be the closest performance to the current SS) are pushing 3600 lbs.
