LS3 Lifters Options and Opinions
Looking to get get some feedback on 2 different LS3 lifters by GM. I am in the process of a LS3 conversion on my 2010 L99. I had a custom cam designed and am deciding between different lifter options.
1. GM #12499225 LS Series camshaft lifter kit An inclusive set of 16 lifters for the LS Series engines. Newly redesigned for high RPM LS7 engine usage. 2. GM #88958689 DESCRIPTION: LFTR PKG set of 16tested to 8000 RPM same dimensions as production improved dynamics and stability at high RPM's The price for the second part number is almost double. Any thoughts? |

I used comps 8610s I Believe but I don't Spin my motor anywhere close to 7 or 8k rpms

Not sure of the part # but the GM Caddy Race lifters are better than the LS7's.

Always the one with the bigger part number. That means it was made at a later date with better tech. (I was BSing.)
Go with the shop guys advice. |

They are NOT!! There are ALOT of failure rates with these lifters because they MUST be setup appropriately!! And even when that have been still trouble since they came out. Yeah there are alot of failures reported on the caddy lifters. I think those need a really light valvetrain and certain springs to work well

I had the Caddy lifters take out an entire ls2 when one of the axles walked out of the lifter. Trailblazer SS, mild cam, ls3 heads, decided i was gonna "upgrade" to those lifters. Maybe it was just bad luck, but I wont be using them again.

What about duration?
How often will it see the track? It doesn't seem radical, I think that the Brian Tooley lifters will be your best bet, you didn't cheap out on a single part of your build lol not even the plug wires. Don't do it on the lifters especially lol.

What kind of reliability do those lifters have? I'm thinking about those or Morels for my next build. Pretty sure a destroyed lifter has ruined my motor so next time I need something better than LS7's.
