Production Schedule?
I have been curious for some time about how the Camaro's are produced at Oshawa.
When the factory receives an order for a new Camaro and is broadcasted for production, do they separate the model productions by a certain day or date? For example purposes only - Camaro Coupe production Mon-Wed., Convertible production Thurs, and ZL1 orders built on Friday.. Or, do they schedule the Camaro's as the orders come in that week with all the car models intermixed on the production line? |

When the system accepted my order on 2/6, my salesman had some reference that told him that convertibles ordered that week would be produced the week of March 3. So, obviously, they aren't making verts everyday.
OTOH, I recently toured the Toyota plant in Princeton where they were making Sienna minivans and each successive vehicle was made to order which kind of surprised me. They don't run batches of a certain type. Of course, Chevy could be much different. |

Thanks for the info, It makes sense to me that they would somewhat separate the models to streamline production. I guessed that verts were made one day and ZL1's and 1LE's made together since share a lot of parts.

There is a video linked here somewhere which shows production of a Camaro from start to finish.
Having said that, unlike the old days where the worker grabbed a part from a bin and installed it, the parts are fed to the line (by computer) for each car. Thus building a custom order or a generic order are pretty much identical. The wait from order to delivery is dictated by other factors, such as number of orders placed before yours, production type (as they don't continuiously produce all models), parts availability, weather, etc.. |
