Did you put in a high output alternator.I upgraded my convertible with 2 subs; componet speakers and 3 amps.one 4ch 150 watt ch and 2 1200 watt mono amps.Going to put in a 270 amp dc power alternator over the winter.

No alternator upgrade, I didnt even do the big three...

I'm only running a JL 500.1 and 300.4 so Im not really pushing that much power... the lights dont dim unless the gains on the amp are turned WAAY up - right now the gains are set at about 50-75% on the 300.4 and only about 30% on the 500.1

I'm not looking to blow out any windows lol, Im just looking for cleaner sound at higher volumes...

With your set up and 2500+ watts I would probably do the big three plus an alternator upgrade and maybe even think about a yellow top or kinetik

Ideally, with the radio at around 75% output, you want the amps to be at clipping on a 0dB tone (you can use a voltmeter and measure output voltage, adjusting to the value specified in the JL manuals for the impedance you have hooked up; use an O scope and look for clipping ) or play a good musical track and listen for audible clipping. The gains specify where your volume knob is when the amp reaches full power.
Beefing up the wiring, and an alternator upgrade is a very good idea with much higher power systems, but additional batteries on a daily driver is usually NOT a good long term solution. Just adds strain to the alternator.

so i'm curious how long it took you to dismantle, lay out the matting, and put back together?

The whole build took roughly 3 weeks, working mainly on the weekends and a little each night... Breakdown was done in about 3-4 hours by myself... Matting took a solid 2-4 days.. Did the cabin 1 day, trunk another, doors another...

Reinstall of the rug, panels and seats took around 4.hours by myself...

very nice... with all of that sound deadening material in there I'll bet it's an extremely quiet ride with the system turned off.
