you can't blame GM for not wanting to warrant a modified product..

if the oil pump needs to be replaced (and it sounds like it) i would drop the pan and put in a quality part...or higher it done by a reputable mechanic.

Haha... what litle is so tactfully trying to say is... you can't drop the pan without cutting the frame, and there is no need to drop it anyways. The pump slides right off the crank snout with some TLC .

You have to drop it a little to get to the pick up tube right...

If I had something wrong with the internals of the engine, I would understand that not being warrantied. The problem I have is that they know, and admitted to me this morning, that there is no possible way that any mod I have could have possibly caused the oil pump to go bad. At this point, it is what it is, and I've learned a valuable lesson about GM that many have learned before me. It's not about customers. Oh well. Honestly, I have no desire to have them put another garbage oil pump back in anyway. I'd never trust my car again. I called the speed shop and he told me he'd order any pump I wanted, so I had him order a Melling. Not thrilled about having to drop $600 to fix something that never should have failed, but it'll be done, better, and I can move on. Only bummer at this point is that they can't get me in until Monday, and I will start my trek to Cali the very next day. Sure hope they get everything right with the install or it could make for a long trip.

Following the verbiage of our warranty policy, the dealer is correct, as any modification can void your warranty. In many cases, the dealer will consider the potential effect of the modifications to the vehicle. This is not a certainty though, as every case must be diagnosed to make that decision. Considering the modifications listed, it is very likely that most dealers would considered the warranty voided. Each dealer operates independently as well. If you feel a second opinion is necessary then I recommend seeking another diagnosis with another dealer.

It's not even worth the trouble at this point. I have talked to both dealers in town. One of them I already didn't trust, now I don't trust either of them, and the closest one out of town is a good 30+ minutes away. I don't have time to waste, so I'll call it a loss and get it done by somebody I trust, that will put a better part in for 1/3 the cost.

That's why I always recommend an oil pump with the installation of a cam. I know maybe you didn't know bud. But we liv and learn. Just sucks your in a crunch but now you'll have that piece of mind after the Install. Then you'll see that pressure shoot up nice after start up all the time.

Secret Squirrel,

Really sorry about the course of action we would have to take. I appreciate my colleague Reggie B. for calling the dealerships on your behalf this morning. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to let us know.

Kind regards,

William R.

No real harm done, but I'll know for next time. I'll just be happy to have it done so I don't have to worry about it again.

Had a buddy rip it apart yesterday. Sure enough...pressure relief valve is stuck open. Easy enough to replace. Picked up a Melling the other day. Timing chain is good, already have a cam so I'm just having him replace that tensioner while he's in there replacing the pump. I'll have it back tonight.

Did you get the Ls2 dampner or another tensioner?
I hope you went with a dampner bud. The tensioners break ALOT. just my .2

That is exactly what he told me so I made a trip to Mobile to pick up the LS2 dampner. He buttoned everything up last night and it is running like a champ again. The stock tensioner was already showing stress lines on it, so I'm glad I made the trip and spent the extra $23. Well worth it, I think.
