I thought I was the only one anal enough to do that. There's hope after all

Pic of bald shift knob?

Also, anyone know how the Recaros hold up over time? I try to be the most gentle entering and exiting the car, but I'm curious how both the bolsters and alcantara hold up

Are you sure it's bald? My shift knob looked bald and I used a stiff tooth brush on it in one spot, for about 10 minutes and suede came back. Its amazing, the whole thing looks like new now.

I've got about 7,500 miles on mine in about 9 months of owing the car. The top of my steering wheel where I hold it and the shifter are starting to become pretty worn. I read on here you can take a suede brush and rub it and it will help to restore the original look and feel

Well, I got out a tooth brush, fairly stiff bristle, but not too stiff.

I started on the shift knob first, vigoursly brushing the heavily matted parts that look worn away. Well nothing at first but after a few minutes I saw parts of it coming back. After 10 to 15 minutes of that the entire shift knob looked new, yes new. I did the steering wheel as well. Like new. I could not believe it.

Now I keep tooth brush in console and every once and awhile I brush it and it continues to look like new.

Jim
Nice, I will be trying this!!
