Wheel/Tire protection plan

Here it comes...beating a dead horse.

Anywho, Monday I ran over a screw and it cost me $462. Not really pleased, but if I were to have the $520 protection plan, it'd be free. I went ahead and purchased the plan today because it covers the wheels AND tires for the next 5 years, and you'll regain the money just after 1 tire. So why am I making this thread?

I want to know everyones opinion on whether it's still worth it. Trust me, I'm the biggest penny pincher there is. I didn't want anything extra that could possibly profit the dealer. It even took me a month to negotiate a trade with the dealer so they didn't make too much money off my car. (Paid $39,xxx for $44,500 car).

With tires like ours(soft), do you think purchasing a plan protecting you from the dreaded roads is worth it.(Maybe it's because of the crappy roads on the border of Mexico?)

When I bought my car, I was never asked if I wanted the wheel and tire protection plan. Heck I had to tell them what a 1LE was when I went and ordered my car. That should have been my clue to got a didderent dealer, but wanted to keep the money within our county, but I will not make the same mistake again. I hear you on not letting the dealer make any more than need be.

I also got a 5 year plan, but it also covers glass and the battery - and it was only $200. It was a no-brainer for me.

I bought the tire/wheel warranty on mine. I think it was just under $500 in my area. I learned this all too well with my wife's Cadillac. She loves the curbs....

Am still covered if I have different wheels?

I have that plan...it's the biggest wast of money I ever spent! I was told anything happens to my expensive wheels or tires they will be fixed of replaced! Ya well my rim took a good hit, messed up the side of my wheel pretty good! Guess what, I didn't get sh$t fixed or replaced! They told me because my tire is ok there is nothing they can do, fought with these morons for 3 weeks and got nowhere! I will never buy a car from Naperville Chevy again!!!

I asked the same question a week or two ago. I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it. It cost me about $700 for my plan.

In the fine print you can only replace your tires 4 times before the plan is used up.

In my 9 years of driving I have only had 1 tire go out on me from unnatural causes.

I got a $500 plan that covers tires and wheels for 5 years. When we lived in north Georgia in the mountains, it was not uncommon to dink a wheel on a hidden pot hole right at the apex to a corner, so I thought it was a good idea to get it. I may regret this, as I am usually anti warranty, but these wheels are expensive, and those tires are thin on the 1LE!

They don't cover curb rash either and that is the only way I have ever seen a wheel damaged and dont they patch the tire unless it is close to the sidewall? I dont like the idea of running on a track with a patch.

Be very specific when buying a plan. The plan the dealer originally offered did not cover curbed wheels. They did some research and found a plan that covered repair of wheels and full replacement if necessary.

Maybe my guys don't know much(again, on the border that has 1 V6 camaro for sale and didn't know that a 1LE isn't an IROC), but my tire pictured was unrepairable in their eyes. They've never even seen my tires, but they're really nice people and guaranteed that with my plan they'll replace anything I need unless it's from wear/tear by mileage. The plan goes up to $7000 total so that's 15 tires haha. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one here that bought the plan on here.

I purchased it as well. One incident and it has paid for itself.

And no, it doesn't cover curb rash. My dealer specifically mentioned this when it was offered.

I also don't think it covers your tires for 5 years. For most of us, that would be numerous sets of tires. But I could be wrong. And if it does cover the tires, likely only if you continue to use the same tire (ie: brand, type, size).

@ajp no, it doesn't cover after market wheels. Only the OEM wheels that were on the car.

Damages only. Items that wear are covered by your wallet.
