Video from my 1LE at Grattan Raceway

This is from a couple weeks ago as I was having issues with my GoPro editor.

This is the first outing with my 1LE in my first session of the day. I was getting a feel for the car and just putting it through its paces. Car was bone stock with the exception of the Motul 600 brake fluid. I ran about 3 laps prior to the start of this video to warm up the car and came in to get some more space on the track. Becky D was my student that day so she is riding shot gun in the start of the video and then 1/2 way into the session I drop her off and pick up Mr. Wyndham (Joe) My buddy labeled the video incorrectly as it was not a Race not was it the second session of the day.

Track layout is in the picture below.

Edit. Forgot to mention with this group they enter the track at an emergency out. I really dislike this track entry, but they feel it is safer than having the student blend on the straight when the cars on track are at anywhere from 80+ mph AND Turn the volume down as its is all wind noise as the camera was mounted on the top of the windshield....AND as soon as I catch that Focus ST the checker flag is out so the last lap is a cool down...If you wait until the end you can see two ZL1 in the pits belonging to my two passengers.

Enjoy.
Matt

thanks for posting! i've never been to a track before and, being a noob, the thought of it is kind of intimidating.. this video has taken away from that and now i'm going to be looking at where to start.

I do have one question.. i've been looking at options for a dash cam and have heard a lot of good things on GoPro products.. which GoPro do you use?

No Problem....Most people do find it intimidatin, but once you try it you will be hooked. I have the GoPro Hero 2, (with wireless remote and all sorts of other things I don't know how to use yet). It was a gift so I didn't pick it and have only used it once (this video), but it seems to work out just fine.

What did you use to get the track layout with the speeds?

Harry's lap timer app for iPhone. I just used the least expensive option.

lol, considering how much I've gotten attached to this car, and time I've spent learning/obsessing, I'm sure i will be. That's good since i was thinking the 3 series wasn't something I'd be much interested in paying more for..

Thanks!

Awesome. Looks like a fun track with some nice scenery and interesting elevation changes.

The video doesn't do the track justice unless you watch the horizon and tree lines. The off camber blind corner, "jump" and uphill blind right left onto the straight are fun to drive. It is also not that hard on brakes which is nice.

How did the car react over the jump? Any ABS anomalies upon landing and braking?

I was taking it easy for the most part as it was my first time on track with this car. I was lifting before the jump to slow it down allowing it to roll over the jump a bit and then braking on the backside after it settled. No issues at all with ABS or braking.

I think a lot of street car guys get in trouble there because they brake before the jump instead of lift. When they brake they compress the suspension and then let off. The car then unloads over the the top and takes longer to settle...Most people panic mid air at that point because of the right hander and jump on the brakes before it settles activating the ABS.

Did you load the track? Or can it create it on the fly?

Grattan was already an option at Harrys so I just had to load it on my app/phone. I believe there was a function that you can set a start/stop point and it will then create the track layout for you.

For under $10.00 it does more than I expected.

Yeah, seems cheap enough to just try it out. Wonder if they have Buttonwillow?

Yes it does. You're not likely to find a track that it doesn't have ready to load.
