Allow Me to Gripe About This...

11 months ago my car got $6800 worth of hail damage at DFW Remote North parking. Last Tuesday while I was out of town it happened again. I can't complain about acts of God but two things bother me.

1. DFW with no covered parking. You can park at the terminal for an outrageous price (that my company would never reimburse) if you can cram your car into a compact slot and have no idea what terminal you'll be returning to.

2. When I asked the bus driver about the hail at Remote North, he told me that all of them were parked out in the open and nobody got any damage at all. He added that the baseball sized hail was all a couple of miles South of the parking lot and that all they got was light marble sized hail. That gave me hope that maybe I had dodged the bullet. But there are at least 15 noticeable dents on the hood and one on the trunk. My complaint is the aluminum hood and trunk seem super susceptible to hail damage.

This time around (after my insurance company has a cow and I cough up another $500 deductible), I might be willing to replace the hood with something a bit harder to dent than the aluminum. Can anyone recommend a stock looking fiberglass hood that might survive Spring time in Texas?

Might as well go carbon fiber. Any camaro could stand to lost some weight. That sucks though, I hope I can manage to miss any hale storms this spring.

Its a good gripe, for sure...but not being from anywhere that has real hail, I would think it wouldn't be that big of a deal for insurance...a pain for you, though.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

Also note, that many ins companies will do a "rate review" after receiving a third claim.

Not sure what hood to recommend but, I always park at the Park and Fly lot at Royal and 635. I reserve a covered spot a few days in advance.

I know you gotta pay your deductible, but seems kinda unfair you incur an extra expense that saves the insurance company money for a legitamate claim.

+1 And I don't even call ahead...just drive in, ask for covered parking and pay...plus you never have to worry about which terminal you return to.

I know nobody likes a whiner but I drive in from two hours West of Ft. Worth on I20. It's going to add a bunch of time for me to get all the way down to Royal Lane...especially in morning rush. I wonder if there is a Park and Fly on 114 near DFW? That would make sense for me.

Here goes....

With all of the people in the DFW area that lost their homes, or suffered tornado and hail damage to their homes, cars, property, last week, yeah it does seem like whining.

If you live up north, you know there's cold weather and for some, that means storing your Camara for the winter.

You live in certain high crime areas, you know you may have to deal with that.

You live in north Texas and you know there is bad weather, with hail actually causing more damage than tornadoes.

I feel your pain and I am thankful I've been in the right place, each storm we've had.

It sounds corny, but it's only a car. It can be replaced or repaired.

Good points, but I think a little over the top...doubt this man needs a lecture about what's really important in life...its a forum for the cars and his issue with the aluminum sheet metal.....relax!!

Gee...thanks...musta missed the part where I wasn't complaining about an act of God. The aluminum hood and trunk on the Camaro are soft and very susceptible to hail damage...GM could do something about that and keep insurance rates down for everyone.

And DFW could and should provide covered parking at reasonable rates. This is after all North Texas and we get a lot of hail here don't we?

Hey, I'm relaxed.

Hundreds of families lost their homes and cars in the storms mentioned and I think "griping" about aluminum hoods, or the lack of covered parking at airport REMOTE lots is kinda pompous.

It wasn't lecture, it was opinion.

I heard about the baseball sized hail nearby and thought, "I wonder what kind of rental I get while mine's in the shop".

Maybe, I'm too laid back and wouldn't take the time to blame GM, DFW airport, or my company for not paying for one of the thousands of covered spots at the airport.

When your subject includes "gripe", it's hard to say you aren't complaining.

Did you notice damage on any of the vehicles nearby? Or, was it only yours?

The baseball sized hail was in Irving and "south of DFW Airport" according to the radio at the time and you'd need a tank to make it through that with no damage.
