In my case I did to make room, because I did not take any of my spark plugs out during header install and I wanted more room to be sure that I was not going to crack any of them. Would of been ok, had I not set the car back down over night with knuckle not attached.

In my case, I ended up spinning the wheel around like I was piloting a friggin pirate ship.

If you did, then the steering wheel sensor has to be reset regardless. In your case you might be right and the clock spring is not broken, but I would want to check to be sure. Don't want no airbag malfunctions while your driving.

For peace of mind check all of your plugs and wires again.
I figured it was already implied that I did unbolt that knuckle. I did not turn the steering wheel. I turned the wheels themselves slightly with the car in the air cause the shaft wasn't wanting to line up so I gave the wheels a slight turn and it slid right in to place. So that has to be where I screwed up. I turned them maybe 10-15 degrees. I'll just take it to the dealer tomorrow. Thanks.

*edit* pulled out all of my spark plugs and they all look perfect so that can be ruled out. Made sure my wires were all seated well and drove the car around afterwards and still got the "service power steering, drive with care" message whenever I made a sharp right turn such as a u-turn. Going to re-program the steering angle sensor tomorrow and then go from there.

Ok so heres the verdict. My steering rack was 360 degrees out of center due to the slight turn I did with the wheels to get it to line up with the shaft. Re-centering it did not correct the problem and it is still throwing a C0544 code. As a result of turning the wheels, my steering gear broke. It's going to be replaced and the problem will be solved. Lesson learned for the future.

i am having this same problem right now with my 2011 SS, i was just driving it down the road at around 40mph and all of a sudden i get the service stabilitrak warning light. I check my spark plug wires and all that seems fine. I am about to go out and see what i can find loose. i will keep yall posted.

If you haven't touched your steering shaft it's very unlikely that it's the same problem that I had.

I have installed many sets of long tube headers on 14 and 15 5th gen Camaro's ,and have never had to undo the steering on a lift .

I have spoken to several people besides myself who did need to unbolt the shaft. It varies by header brand.

1 7/8 Kooks, SW, SP, and ARH , slid right in with no problem what so ever without taking apart the steering knuckle . And I am a 64 year old man. And the ARH headers were a real work of art outstanding ,just beautiful. The Kooks were pretty nice too . Have yet to do 2 inch ,so maybe they might need to take apart the steering knuckle .

I can see needing to for 2" headers maybe, or not on a lift, but I didn't even remove the spark plugs on my original header install, let alone the steering shaft. Had to take them off and put them back on during my head install and again they slid right in. Didn't even know the shaft was there.

Not sure what you want me to tell you guys but it is what it is.... And I'm not alone in that there are people I know personally who had the same experience. I did mine on a lift btw... I don't see how being on a lift or not is relevant to how the headers fit between the steering shaft and engine block. It's either going to fit between the gap or it's not regardless of whether the car is on a lift or not.

Lesson learned: The entire car is actually a big stabilitrak system.
