That's food for thought. Hope it's not the sticky bypass valve.

I agree. The oil definitely didn't cause the pressure to fall directly... BUT you know haha... contingency plan!
Betcha it is!

As someone else posted, they only use Group III base stock, so it's not TECHNICALLY full syn, but there are enough additives that classify it as a full synthetic.
It's still a great oil, but it does get really thin when hot, and that's why I don't run it. |

Everybody wants to get hung up on the oil; it's a baseless argument. And, while I understand hemp's reasoning with the ZDDP, Mobil1 has one of the highest film strengths in the market. Shear shouldn't be a problem, but I can understand the extra protection.

I doubt the oil caused this oil pressure to plummet like this has been described.

I ran Mobil 1 last month at Fontana Speedway and didn't have any issues.

I ran Mobil 1 into the trash can and left it there, Redline, Motul or Amsoil. I don't believe the OP ran Mobil 1. If you track your car stop using that crap.

No disrespect intended, but I wouldn't take advice on motor oil from someone going by the name KaBoom

I had the same problem with mobile 1 on a hot track day. Fine on the street but not on the track. Gets to hot and thin.

If you are still in warranty you may want to consider having the pump checked/replaced.
A sticking relief valve will eventually lead to an expensive rebuild. |

I'm 99.999% sure that it was a viscosity issue that caused the low oil pressure. It happened only when it was stinking hot and since the change to RedLine, no problem.
I also believe that the old oil in the engine contributed to the viscosity breakdown. As wakespeak wrote in Post#13 and corroborated by some friends of mine, the Mobil1 was likely fuel diluted over the winter storage months and the track day just killed it. Lesson learned, change your oil after storage before use. Alas, no more warranty on the car. Past its 5 year drive train warranty.

I'd still look at the oil pressure relief. I have run many track days in southern California using Mobil 1 with no pressure drop. The hottest being a hundred degrees and the calculated oil temp gauge showed over 300 and the coolant temp was 247. Ive got my engine partially apart right now and so far there is no unusual/excessive wear. I run a Melling pump and thus don't worry about the factory relief valve issue.
I am not an oil expert but I've been wrenching on and racing cars my whole life. If there is one thing you are going to get a lot of is expert testimony (opinions most times) on things like oil brand. I am not going to knock anyone for what they choose. I've been running Mobil for many years with no complaints. I have friends that run it in two record holding land speed cars. So like a few of us said, you might want to take a look at that pump and the pressure relief. A lot of folks have lost an engine because of that problem and if you have it happen on a track you most certainly will as well. It looks like you have done some great mods to make the car handle. I am sure it is a blast to drive. Good luck.
