A6 sticking in second under slight aggressive driving.

I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I have had this happen to me a few times now. In sport mode if I do a mildly aggressive rolling launch, not WOT, the transmission will not shift to 3rd once I ease off the throttle (about 50mph). It just wants to stay in second till tap shift out of it.

It seems like it should reset the shift points when I ease out of the throttle, but it still thinks I want to run a Quater.

I'm leaning toward this being a function of the adaptive learning. The Camaro thinks I want to race, but I just want to have a little run up to speed limit.

First off is this normal? I also think I recall this happening in D mode also, but not sure. I have only had the car for a month, so I just want to be sure what is normal and what is not. Thanks!

It happens to me in sport mode from 5th to 6th. If I get on it going up an onramp it will stay in 5th. I just ease up and give it a minute and it will eventually shift to 6th.

The thing is, that in second, when I let off the gas at 50-55 mph its like slamming on the breaks. It doesn't seem healthy.

Because when you let off the gas at 50-55 in 2nd gear your in the higher rpm range so your going to feel the effect of the "engine braking" more than you would at lower rpm. Its just like driving down a steep hill and downshifting to keep your speed down and not touch the breaks as much.

Ok thanks for your replies. So I take it that this is just normal and something I will have to get used to.

It's amazing what they put in the owner's manual...

Quote:
While driving in M (Manual Mode),
if Tap Shift has not been activated,
the transmission determines when
the vehicle is being driven in a
competitive manner and will select
and hold the transmission in lower
gears and have more noticeable
upshifts for sportier vehicle
performance.
