I qualify as OCD, lol.

I wash my car every week and even though I don't actually take the wheels off, I will jack up the car on every corner so I can freely spin the wheels for easy access, otherwise the calipers don't get completely clean. I do this every week.

I had to clean each tire 4-6 times with goo gone just to get the thick layer of tire shine slop they put on it.
Any detailer reading this thread won’t think your

Invest in some dedicated wash media. I love wheel woollies and Adams Wash pads. I used a seperate wash bucket with a grit guard just for wheels.

For your first total OCD deacon I would recommend purchasing some Sonax Wheel cleaner I find it superior to other cleaners when attempting to remove all imbedded contaminants.

Spray this on Dry cold to the touch wheels.
Let it dwell and agitate it with a decent boars hair brush of your choice (Montana makes several that I love).
After fronts and backs are done rinse extremely well.

This next step may be over kill but if you are going this far lets knock the cover off the ball.

Buy a large bottle of TRIX from carpro.

Same process as the Sonax with the TRIX but this will insure that all the iron and tar is removed from your wheels.

Now clay the wheels.

Then rewash with dawn or some APC.

Inspect.

If they have imperfections or scratches then polish them I like Megs M205 with a micro fiber applicator for mild imperfections by hand. If you have a polisher with a 3in backing plate that is ideal for the faces and the barrels.

Once the condition is acceptable to you then I would use a sealant or coating as my LSP there are many choices for this. I like HYDRO2 for its ease of application but others may recommend something more durable like MODESTA or OPTIGUARD.

Remember to retorque the lug nuts to factory specs when you reinstall and you should be good to go.

If you keep up with them weekly a simple wash with car soap should keep them looking mint for a long time.

Good luck and have fun.

I've been tempted to take them off to wash, but this brush makes it much easier while they are on:

In all seriousness though, you should NOT be using goo gone or goof-off or any variation of that on your wheels. Rule of thumb, if you wouldn't feel safe putting it on the paint on your car, and everyone should know how strong goo-gone is, it will take up clear coat and will pull up paint as well. I only use soap and water just like in that link, but maybe not as sensual as the above
How do you teach a girl to do this..

I do it once a week, I detail my car every Friday and take the wheels off and clean them completely.. a lot easier having a lift to do it on though (if I didn't have a lift probably not so much) we go to the pavilions car show in Scottsdale every Saturday and I get A LOT of compliments on how clean my wheels/car is

And to answer the question, I think it is.. but I love a clean car
