Reading Dipstick after oil chage
Has anyone else had this happen? I change the oil. I replace with Mobile 1 and when I go to read the dipstick, I can't tell the level. The fresh oil is too clear. The whole stick looks shiny/oily. Tried waiting hours and hours, rechecking each time but no change. Finally I just measure how much I drained and make sure I put exact same quantity back in.

When I used Mobile 1 I would take the dipstick out and place it on a blue shop towel, where it is wet is where the level is.
For all the complaining about Royal Purple is just oil with purple die, that die comes in handy when you do oil changes. |

Mine, L99, takes 8 quarts. I replaced the 7.5 quarts that I drained out.

You need to get the new oil up to operating temp, then let it drain down for a few minutes, then check level.
By the way, my L99 takes 8 quarts, just like the manual says. |

Pull dip stick out and hold it in front of you horizontally, maybe slightly tilted down so the oil will not run uphill on the stick and show a false reading. Turn/rotate the stick so you are looking at it about a 45 degree angle so the light above reflects off of it and you will see the oil line clearly.

Grab a 12 pack of beer, pull the dipstick out and hold it vertically above the ground and start drinking the beer. However many beers you finish before a drop of oil hits the ground is how many quarts you have in your engine.* *Not a scientific method. |

Good question, next Camarofest this will have to be tested in the parking lot. 12 oz beers or 16 oz beers for accurate oil measurement.
Think we can find volunteers? |
