FUEL GAUGE QUESTION
Hello All,
I have the 2SS and would like to know if all 19 gallons are represented on the fuel gauge. I have read that people drive to empty 'E' and then fill 15 gallons. But what exactly is empty? The red horizontal line is actually below the 'E'. Does 'E' correspond to the red line? And finally, what is your opinion of the accuracy of "Average Fuel Economy MPG" calculated by the computer? Do you guys find it to be pretty accurate? Thanks in advance Joe |

Well usually below E it is like a reserve.. 2-4 gallons...but its bad to keep gas below a 1/4 tank... I'm not saying it will do it anytime soon but in the future you could burn your fuel pump up.. Also I hope the MPG isnt accurate I get around 15 lol... thats city mileage though. Not highway.. but really it has been accurate so far..

I never seemed to have more than a half a tank when I was a teen, and my dad kept telling me that it would be just as easy to run on the top half of the tank as the bottom half... unless I'm on a long roadtrip I try to never get below a 1/4 tank, I've seen far too many people walking down the side of the road with a gas can in their hands and I've never seen the point of that. No excuse as far as I can see.

The half tank is smart because it keeps the pump submerged and it dissipated the heat from running easily. When its exposed to air it retains heat. 3rd and 4th gens were famous for shitting pumps if you always had them low especially in the summer.

Im pretty sure when its on e in this car it really means empty. I know it was less than an 1/8 tank and hp tuners was showing about 2 gallons left. I definately ran out of gas once when it hit e. So take it for its word.

Umm theres a fuel filter for that, and trash settles at the bottom of the tank.

All tanks have a separation part where the sump is, like a lil tray with a lip that keeps dirt away from the pickup, also the sock filter at the pickup and then the fuel filter. Old cars could pick up crap in the tank, my 57 chev had that happen. Newer cars have a really smart setup where the crap stays away from the fuel inlet.

Since I use my car as a daily commuter (110miles round trip), I've been using the DIC just to see what my average fuel economy is like. On freeway/highway driving, I average 25.3MPG (reset the computer once up to freeway speed), and combined city driving and freeway driving, average is 21.3MPG (computer average after a reset and fill up).
Every time I attempt to run the fuel tank low, I get a bit nervous under 1/4 tank and just fill up. So far, using the trip meter, I average 310 miles when I hit just under 1/4, and fill ups are no more than 14 1/2 gallons. If the tank really is a 19 gallon tank, I may just tempt fate and see how low I can go using the DIC / Trip meter before the low fuel light kicks in.
