When should I first service my 2012 Camaro? I know that its either the oil life goes down 20-22% but after how many miles should I take it in for its first service? |

In your owners manual it shows in section 10 on page 13 that:
This vehicle has a computer system that indicates when to change the engine oil and filter. This is based on a combination of factors which include engine revolutions, engine temperature, and miles driven. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at which an oil change is indicated can vary considerably. For the oil life system to work properly, the system must be reset every time the oil is changed. When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it indicates that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes on. You can go based off of this system or you can go off any sort of mileage or driving parameters you may choose. They only really big stipulation that I can think of is the type of oil you would want to use. The manual recommends you use Dexos specified oils. Notice: Failure to use the recommended engine oil or equivalent can result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty. Check with your dealer or service provider on whether the oil is approved to the dexos1 specification. The manual also states you should be using 5w-30 oil unless you live in an area that gets bellow -20 degrees Fahrenheit. In that case you would use 0w-30.I hope that helps to answer some of your questions. Jeff Morris, Chevrolet Customer Service |
