I see yours is a 2015. Don't worry about it.

It is a problem for early L99's.

Not to be the "use the search tool" guy but there are more than a handful of threads discussing this. I just haven't seen one recently.

You can be proactive and do the oil pump with cam and supporting goodies. Or you can cross your fingers. Lots of guys haven't had any problems with lots of miles. And L99 can upgrades are more costly than LS3s. Get your lifters replaced while you are at it.

I would consider yours an early build as mine is (built 8/4/09 #32351). My
L99 is still fine with almost 42,000 miles. I've always been easy on my SS
and it's had 10 oil changes since new which may have helped. At this point
I'm not going to worry about my oil pump or anything else... Sh*t happens.

the car told you you lost oil pressure? You didn't hear tapping. Its very common for the oil pressure sensor to plug up or go bad. I bet that's it. There is a screen that is in the hole below the sensor. My brothers was plugged a few month ago. no oil pressure. Cleaned the screen and put a new sensor now good as new. By looking at the screen it was so plugged i bet the sensor still worked.

Changed over to dino oil before the 500 mile mark and never turned back.

L76, L77, L92, L94, L99, L9H, LC9, LH6, LH8, LH9, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS7, LS9, LSA, LZ1

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(*) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:

Some customers may complain of low oil pressure, no oil pressure, and/or engine noise, which may be the result of a sticking oil pump pressure relief valve. In some instances, this may occur intermittently if the valve frees up when the engine cools down.
Recommendation/Instructions:

If SI diagnosis isolates low mechanical oil pressure at the oil filter housing and oil pressure sensor, replace the oil pump, flush the oil cooler lines (if equipped), clean the inside of the oil pan, change the oil and filter, and re-evaluate the concern.

Ron
So even if it's just the valve, it's still am issue within the pump, right? I'm not going to attempt to start it again. I'll wait the couple weeks until I can get it flatbed to the shop and get the cam, pump, and everything else done.

More common on the ls3 because aren't the l99 pumps different (higher pressure or volume) because the afm/dod?

Was this problem fixed for the 2013 model? I just bought a used LS3 with 25000 miles and reading all of these threads has me worried

I doubt it. The oil pump picks up unfiltered oil.

Be careful with oil changes is my advice. Don't let any opportunity for grit or dust to get into the system. Careful around the oil filter mount, don't work on a dusty day, leave the cap open, etc. One grain of grit...stuck bypass valve.

Sitting at 58K here with bolt ons/tune with the stock oil pump

Pretty anal about my oil changes though, done exactly or before every 5,000 miles.

Asked PCM of NC when I got tuned what they usually saw in 5th gens with oil pump failures and they said all of the failures but one had a cam swap that was likely the culprit. They do oil pump upgrades with every cam swap now, so I imagine a stock engine it's a pretty low percentage.

I recently set a Dashlogic alarm to display and remain on whenever PSI <20 In the past 2 mos it's gone off around a half dozen times but for only stayed on for a second or two when coming to a semi-sudden stop but just on an uphill or downhill incline. Oil level was a quart down so I added a 1/2 qrt and the alarm happened once again at first low dimple. Other than that PSI is 28 at warm idle, in the 40s at 1,500 rpm or above. 20k on the car. Seems the alarm goes off just when oil might be surging in the pan due to stopping on an incline Thoughts?
