IMO, there is a point of diminishing returns...
for example, it would be crazy to have a 4.xx gear in my car as it would be virtually impossible to get traction... and if I did get traction, it would go through the gears so fast that I could conceiveably be in 5th gear in the 1/4 mile... The best way IMO to determine gear selection is to decide what gear your car is going to run as top gear in the quarter mile, and then try to get the car into and close to red lining out in that gear at the finish line. with my current power and soon to be new power, I went with a 3.07 gear in mine and taller gears in the trans so I can get more than a few feet off the line before shifting out of first...

I would say more than anything.. improper install and break in.. proper backlash and break in or BROKEN.. your choice.

These gears are not made for track racing, at least the 3:73's which is what I have. They are for street and I was told that when i ordered them. Richmond or the parent company that bought them out has more expensive gear sets that are made of stronger materials for mor $$$

Iirc they say the stronger gears will fail with street use. It may not make logical sense but I remember a Richmond rep saying that exact thing... Before Richmond got flamed off the forum. I'm torn which way to go, I wish LPE errrrrr aam would just make me some 4:10/4:11 |

Several of us are waiting for a reliable 4.10/4.11 - only want to do this install "once"
Even looking into having the gears cryogenically frozen.....

"We have gone with a material that has 300% of the nickel content of 8620 which translates into about 50% of the nickel content of 9310. Having said that, this material allows for flexibility as well as having the toughness of a heat treated 8620. As far as warranty, we will replace any defective product within 12 months that failed due to material or workmanship. Claude Plante at DTS (Drivetrain Specialists) in Warren, MI will be more than happy to set you up with price and availability on these gears. He can be reached at 586-778-0540". Here are the gears they have (4.10's seem like the only viable option to me!): Part Number Description Pinion Spline Steel Ratio TEETH 01-486308CM CAMARO 3.08 BEVEL SET 30 4320 3.08 40 - 13 01-486323CM CAMARO 3.23 BEVEL SET 30 4320 3.23 42 - 13 01-486373CM CAMARO 3.73 BEVEL SET 30 4320 3.73 41 - 11 01-486410CM CAMARO 4.10 BEVEL SET 30 4320 4.1 41 - 10 There is one guy here on Camaro5 that has purchased and installed these gears. So far, he says he's very happy with them. Here's his thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210502 I am interested to hear about some more feedback on these as well. If they prove to be much more reliable than the Richmond's (probably not too hard to do at this point), then I might go this route rather than a full rear end conversion. Lemme know what you guys think or find out about these gears!!! Keith |

Maybe, this BREAK IN is new to me but how the hell you going to say. You have to break in gears. Please explain to me...
If installed correctly and made from the proper material these should give you years of duty free service. So you mean to tell me my uncle's 1920 ford 1 ton truck has a better gear set then now when you think technoilogy material and production is far superior to what it was almost a 100 years ago
