Thanks guys
This is one of those questions that requires a little more detailed information to answer completely.

I'll answer this way. This assumes that you leave the brakes and seats alone. If I were the occasional track type, say 3-5 times per year I would build as follows.

Headers, Mid build Cam (Livernois 2C), CAI, Custom Cal, goal of 445 to the wheels.

Pedders Supercar Coilovers as part of Camaro Justice Package

I think this would be a pretty kick butt setup for the average guy.

You can't really make a Z/28 from a 1LE but this would be a pretty awesome 1LE.

You'd have to order the 427 crate motor, the CC brakes and the necessary suspension components not included with the 1LE. Got to include the cost of installation and tuning, tweaking etc. Then there's the aero parts, paint. Ouch, not an easy endeavor to say the least.
Agreed crate motor alone from GMPP would be 20k plus brakes plus changing glass and other light weight parts. I think it would cost much much more than just buying a Z/28

Hence it makes much more sense to buy a purpose built vehicle with the costs already absorbed in, but we already knew that.

No doubt but this thread question/theme is about to become very common in the coming months as we await the arrival of the Z.

Thanks guys. I didn't want to be too detailed to see where you might take it. Again it would be an availability issue more than price. Considering the Z/28's performance more than an exact replica. The LS7 is available online for under $14K. Other thoughts; go with the ZL1 brake set up and even consider the ZL1's hood, but love the Z/28 rear spoiler. Yes, the Pedder's Justice suspension setup would be the way to go (hello Pete?). The 1LE tranny on back is already the same as a Z/28 I believe. The interior is essentially the same. I assume the NPP and steering are the same...

Even with what you described, that's ZL1 money territory.

Here's the best point... There really isn't a bad choice any way you go.

Good point, but the ZL1 is really a very different animal. It's that dang 427 that's so expensive, but I love it!

True, but if you go the route of building your own "Z", the burden of reliability falls upon you.

I didn't mean as a direct comparison, only in a monetary sense.

Gotcha!

It's funny we finally have the Z/28 in the flesh and the House is still somewhat quiet???

Yes that's a consideration. An it's being considered. Maybe get a ZL1 and sell the LSA and buy an LS7.

I think that's what is so great with Chevy coming out with different iterations of the Camaro. If something is out of reach for someone's budget, if they have the patience, you could still get a great muscle car that's been, as you say, gently used. I can foresee in the near future, it will be very difficult to make a choice of which Camaro to get if you're looking for something that is used. So many to pick from...it's...AWESOME
