(lack of) Spare Tire Question

So. Those of you like me with 2010s, that didn't have the option to purchase a spare tire...........what did you do?

a. didn't worry about it and still don't have one
b. purchased some kind of aftermarket spare (which one if you did?)
c. carry a plug or patch kit
d. carry around an extra full size tire
e. rely on AAA
f. other

The reason I ask is because I got my first nail in my tire the other day. I was lucky because I noticed it at home and was able to plug it in my driveway before it even lost 2 PSI of air. Hate to think of the aggrevation if it happened away from home and the tire went down. I know one thing I won't do any more - use tire slime. Even though the can says "tire sensor safe" all over the place - it isn't, if you keep it in there for more than a day or two. Just had to have a sensor replaced and reprogrammed in my wife's Kia at my cost of $210.00. Bob

F. OTHER.....I ordered the SPARE TIRE OPTION on my 2010 2LT/RS

30Seconds, I'm a bit confused.....if you have a 2010....you HAD the option....as it was one of the options I ensured I got when I ordered mine. NOW, if you bought yours off the lot....its very possible you didn't get one as the dealer didn't order it when he placed his order. BUT the OPTION was available in 2010. and he could have added it to your car when you bought it for a nominal charge.

You will hear that this has been discussed many times.

And I'm confused, too. You have a 1LT?

For SS folks..........

Personally, I bought a rim and spare tire and spacer. Spacer needed to clear the brake pads.

Rim from Chevy dealer: Part # 92230888

Tire from http://www.maxxis.com/ Part # TP10676000

Spacer from http://adaptitusa.com/5x120to5x475ca...eladapter.aspx

Jack and other tools from any auto parts store.

This is the rim that comes with the V6.

A lot better than a can of Fix-O-Flat. Fits in the spare tire space in the trunk.

I chose option A.
Do you know if the spacer would be needed for the V6? Sorry if this is a dumb question...

A and E

I do keep runflats on my c6 Vette, though, and that did pay off one time when I had a flat about 25 miles outside of Memphis, TN. At least I was able to get to the tire store to find out there were none of the tires in stock in the country except for two in Michigan.

C and D
C plug kit when just running around home.
D full size spare and jack when on a trip, spare will work on front and back.
don't want to be stuck somewhere waiting on repairs or worse needing to replace the tire and no one has one it has to be ordered.
hope I never have to use it.

I know many have seen this before but on any extended trip in my SS I'm all set.
Full front tire/wheel strapped down plus AAA:

I carried a spare tire for over 200,000 miles in my 1970 Buick. Never had a flat. 54K miles in a Solstice GXP with no spare. No flats. My 2012 Camaro SS has no spare.

That doesn't say I won't get a flat. But with TPMS and a daily walk-around of the car each morning before I drive, I'm not worried. However, I have only had one actual flat tire in 24 years of driving. Sometimes I have a had a low tire but flats? Just the one. That was on a rear snow tire on my '87 Regal.

Tires are not like they were in the bad old days any more

I recently purchased the spare tire kit from Performance Spare. Glad I did, as I never felt comfortable out on the road without a spare, plus my wife would not be a happy camper sitting on the side of the road for an extended time. Not much room n the conv trunk anyway, so needed something that was out of the way.

No space needed on the v6 models. You just need the tire and a jack. The big problem i heard is getting the jack to fit under the car when the tire is completely flat. This could prove to be a challenge out on the road. Hope i never have to find out.
