More cam questions
I'll start off with my car. It is a 2SS M6 and my mods are Vararam cai, ported throttle body and maf, ARH 1 7/8 lts with hf cats, Magnaflow mufflers, and custom tune. Suspension I've got bushings, coilovers, swaybars, and trailing/toe arms on aftermarket rims with Nitto 05 275/35/20 fr and 315/30/20 rear, SS brake lines, Hawk HPS pads with Wilwood fluid. The car drives and handles awesome but now I'm looking for more power. I've done 15 or so autocross days, 6 or 8 1/4 mile days, and one weekend track day at Sebring. This car has done well in all areas. So I like all types of race days and this is not my daily driver it is more of a weekend bruiser/cruiser. Now to the questions.
1. Do the cams that are on the larger side have any problems with vaccum operating the power brakes. This is a problem with the gen 1 SBC, is it just not an issue with the LS motors? 2. Which is harder on the valve springs, a cam with more lift or a cam with more duration or does that not matter and is one better than the other. 3. I've noticed some cams are listed with a LSA of say 112 and others say 115+3, what is the (+3)? Is that different than a LSA of 118? And from what I've been reading it seems like a higher LSA leads to better driveability. 4. I was and am looking at some of the "smaller" stage 2 cams from Vengence, Livernois, and Janetty for their better driveability, but if I put on my big boy pants and got one of the "bigger" cams like the LG6X3 or TSP231/236 would they work later on down the road when I eventually have the money to go to a 416 ci motor. The bigger motor is probably a year or two down the road. I'm nervous about the driveablity of the larger cams. I really don't want to change the gears unless I have to. Thanks for any advice or insight. All suggestions welcomed.

Op here's some tid bits for you: -higher lobe separation is going to give you a broader hp/tq curve at the expense of midrange hp/tq -the +3 means the cam has 3 degrees advance built in -more lift is harder on your valve springs than duration -you will lose vacuum with a larger cam just like a regular sbc....it's no as bad because the ls motors are fuel injected and you can get away with more -a 230@ .050 cam in a ls acts about like a 240@ .050 cam in a regular sbc chevy. The reason why is the ls cylinder head pets are much larger....so you do need as big of a cam Hope this helps some

I have LS3 heads on my 6.0L GTO. I have a 227/235 113+4 on comp LSL lobes. I put down 467/411 to the wheels. Long table flat torque curve, great street road/race power curve (smooth not peaky)...but I'm going for more of a drag setup. I'll sell it to you for a steal in a few months when I get home if you can wait haha. 3500 miles on the cam.
I'm going to a 231/243 113+4 on LSL lobes and cutting the pistons like the pro's |
