How long do you wait to warm up the car?

More specifically, what temperature should the "Coolant temperature" read before starting your car?

My rule was to always wait until it hits 100 and it seemed to be perfect. The oil temperature gauge would move up to a comfortable position to start the car.

Now, I've been doubting myself. Considering "Coolant Temperature" will never be at 100 during the spring/summer.

So, bottom line question: At what "Coolant Temperature" is it okay to start driving? In cold weather I'd say 100, but what about warm weather?

I am not sure what the temps read , but I take about 1 minute or so, to get all situated and cool looking.

Wait long enough for the fast idle to come down, then drive like an old person until you see the temp gauge needle up off the bottom.

in colder days I let if warm for at least a couple minutes, try not to start it under 32 degrees, when it is summer time I just jump in start and drive.

there was just another thread on this same subject not more than a week ago....

fire it up and let your oil pressure build and idle come down...that is all you need to do

About three minutes a little more in winter.
If I remember correctly most wear on a properly operating engine occurs within the first two to three minutes of start up.

as long as it takes to turn the key and put it in reverse..

with a fuel injected motor and synthetic oil, warm up is not really needed.. HOWEVER.. I do live in Socal.. can't speak for you guys buried in snow..

So if it's 32*, you don't drive your car??

I ran this question by Ted Jannetty. He recommended that you wait until the coolant temp gauge starts moving, which for me, just so happens to be right at 100 degrees.

Depends on the ambient temp. But I usually wait for the coolant temp to read at least 100.
