Has your car or this forum become an obsession?
My “boy toys” went away with marriage, kids, and a career. When my oldest became college bound in 2010, it was time for a badass car. I wanted a stock looking car with big performance. So I bought Nickey #31 (M6), in 2010. I had no desire to race it, just drive it and punch it every time I had the urge.
I then joined this forum. I read about cars running mid 12s and I was certain my car would be in the 11s. So off to the track I went and ran a 12.49. In pursuit of 11s, my addiction to this forum and the car began. I get in the 11’s and then the ZL1 came out with tuners already in the 10’s. So I bought Nickey ZL1 #001. My very first pass was 11 sec flat and I know I spun at launch and could do better, but I was kicked off the track for going too fast without harness and roll bar. I didn’t want to “ruin” the car, so I left drag racing to pursue road racing, autocross, and open road racing. Dang it, if you want to go 200 MPH, you have to have a cage, fire system, etc. So back to the forums and the shop for more mods. Are you obsessed with your car? Are you addicted to reading this forum? Over the past 18 months, I have bought 4 other cars and I rarely go to the forums for those cars and I have done very few mods. There is just something about this car that makes owners obsessed. |

Same here, addicted to both. I have a 14 year old son. Luckily I started a 529 plan for him when he was born so college won't be as big a hit for me. Also the ZL1 I bought last month was discounted from $62k down to $46k. I turned 50 so even with the payments for the next 6 years it was now or never lol. Without the discount there was no way I could have afforded it. Thank you GM!!!

No change, life has been pretty constant. My wife enjoys great cars also and we've had about 80 in our 35 years of marriage, through three kids growing up, etc. Heck, I gave my first son a TransAm "Smokey and the Bandit" when he was 17. Between cars, collecting high end guitars, and guns, there hasn't been much of any changes over the years. Just purchased two more cars yesterday - one being delivered today and the other in about a month. I go to other forums and do mods on all my cars - keep them all pristine, could eat off the engines. A neighbor kid told me the other day that his mom figured out I must buy and sell cars for a living... I told him, "No, I just buy and keep and enjoy cars, it's not a living, LOL"

I hear ya man....
I blame C5 for pushing me from the 13' 2LT/RS V6 to getting this ZL1 I have today. Without C5 I don't think I'd ever have the knowledge or desire to trade up. I'm still in the kid phase.....we have four 14, 11, 8 & 5. Car shows and Camaro club meeting are events for the whole family.
