I inspected mine today and found it leaks by the oil cooler and the oil pan(both minor oil leaks no drops just seaping). First I thought it was coming from the main seal but I removed the round inspection cover to discover a nice and clean inside! I don't really wan't the dealer spilting my engine and transmission apart on a car with only 13k. So I guess I will leave it like that for a while and keep and an eye t'ill it starts dripping on the ground.

After looking at the TSB for the rear cover maybe mine also has the rear engine cover porosity issue, it's pretty hard to tell which is leaking the oil pan or the rear cover. Pretty well in the same area!

^^Could be both. I had both fixed 8 months ago, no more leaks.

do they need to drain the oil to repair any of the oil leak issues? Im just about due for an oil change and ive noticed oil in the past on my pan and lines under it. i wont bother doing an oil change if they have to do one in the process.

Jer, if you haven't checked yet I can always contact your dealer to see if they would need to drain your oil for this repair. I hope this helps. Let us know how things go with your dealer.

Sounds like your from momma GM. Care to comment on this issue or how widespread it is?

My '10 had drips off the cooler and pan. First repair was ... leak test dye, cooler seals and gaskets, and 1 qt of oil.

Still leaked. Second repair was leak test dye, new oil cooler, new seals again, 1 qt of oil.

Leak then fixed, and I had bright blue oil. I then changed the oil.

So if, it's just the cooler, I'd bet they top off with a qt after the repair. If the
actual pan is leaking, would probably have to drain all the oil for that. But the cooler can make it look like there is leaks all over under there. They will need to use the dye to find the actual source of the leak.

My 2010 SS leaked drops of oil last summer and brought in to the dealer and they replaced a gasket, noticed the leak again when I took the car out of garage storage and dealer is now replacing the oil cooler block but they have to order the part and keep the car overnight. I am really surprised they do not have these parts in stock, but I hope this fixes the problem.

If this problem continues will they still work on this under warranty even when the warranty expires ?

Mine goes in in the AM for this same scenario....they did an oil change and found the issue...they are leaning to the oil cooler as the source...is this new oil cooler gasket an upgrade from the OEM...or just a replacement of the same one.

Mine is in right now. At first he said the rear seal was leaking. But I pointed out other leaks and the oil cooler was leaking the worst. He replaced the oil cooler and put dye through the engine. Ran it and said it was good to go. the cooler must have been spraying oil back making the rear look like it was leaking. He was ready to pull the trans out before I pointed out the oil cooler.

It will look just like the rear main and pan are leaking. Which they could be, but the only way to actually diagnose it correctly is - clean everything off, add dye, drive it a couple miles, then check with the blue light on where the dye is actually seeping out. And if it's the cooler, don't bother with the seals and gaskets, going to need a new cooler.

If the bill doesn't have leak detection dye on it, they have no clue how to diagnose an oil leak.

My '10 took three tries to actually get the dealer to fix it right. The 3rd attempt where the oil cooler was replaced, along with using dye, actually fixed it. A couple tries with seals and gaskets were wastes of time. Something is feckered up with the coolers.

Ghost78, after your base bumper to bumper or powertrain warranties are over you also get a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on replacement parts and labor when you pay for both from your dealer. If you buy the part from your dealer you get a warranty on the part and not the labor. Hopefully it doesn't come to that and your dealer can get this taken care of for you.

The oil cooler and any part of the drive train should be covered for 5 years or 100k miles. Am I mistaken?
