Launching tips on nitrous?
Hey guys,
So I went to the track last night for the first time on the new setup and it was a complete fail lol My best time was a 12.6 @ 115 with a horrible 2.1 60' on street tires and my goal was to do way waaay better than that. My new setup consists of ported heads/ported mani, 150 shot and 17" full slicks. Things didn't go as planned because the car kept bogging out most likely torque management although I asked my tuner to disable it :no idea: First pass: I held the traction control button down for 7 seconds and rolled up for the burn out. As I attempted to do the stand still the car kept loosing power and felt like it was gonna stall no matter how much I tapped on the gas pedal so I let off and staged. Took off at around 3500 rpm and the tires spun quite a bit because I didn't heat them up at all :thumb down: and I missed third thus running a 12.6 @ 110 with a 2.3 60' Second pass: I only pressed the traction control once and rolled up to the burnout and when I tried to do it, it worked great! I was able to stay in the burnout for a good 10 seconds no problem and I advanced to stage. I also launched around the same rpm and the car felt like it hooked very good then just completely bogged and when tq management decided to give me my power back, I was tied to the seat. Shifted to second, then third and even to 4th for the first time ever. I would usually pass the 1/4 mile line at the end of third. However, I only hit a 12.7 @ 111 with a 2.1 60'. Track was really packed that night and lines were ridiculous so I called it a night. My question to you guys is how can I get better launches? What am I doing wrong? I have the nitrous setup with a window switch that activates at wot and I also have the mad 2-step at 4k but I can't hit the 2-step at the line without injecting nitrous and the kaboom!! I really appreciate you guys taking the time to read through all this and helping a fellow camaro owner out!

I ran 12.6 @115 with just bolt ons . 60' was 2.0 I think it might be the tune. Your mph should be higher.

I have a 100 shot, LT, and CAI on street tires and ran a 12.3 today. I would have the tune checked.

The sig has all my mods. Pretty much all bolt ons, cam, ported heads, ported mano and 150 shot. Elevation doesn't help here in El Paso which is why I think times are a little off bug believe it or not it's better times than a lot of the Camaros here. I have a buddy with full bolt ons and a cam and the best he can do is 12.9 on drag radials. I did a 12.6 on street tires spinninf all of first.

Thanks for your input. That's a good time for that 60 foot! Best I did with bolt ons was no where close to that haha

That's bad ass man. Congrats! Wish my car ran as strong as that! What's your launching technique for the nitrous?

I would say with your elevation out there you should be in the high 11's low 12's

Slicks like a little wheel speed, a little spin.
How about increase launch rpm or put more air in the tires?

This is how I launch on streets or drs. I turn all nanny controls off When pulling up to do the burnout, I leave them off for the pass also. I drop the tire pressure to around 28psi and then adjust from there. After the burn out when pulling up to the lights I let the clutch rip out a little to feel If the car will hook. After tripping the lights I hold the clutch in 1st, then I start to let the clutch out to right before the car starts to move. When the light drops I roll into the throttle and ease the clutch out while getting heavier on the gas. I don't smash the pedal down until the clutch is all the way out.

Lmao stock that has happened to me in the heat. I am not telling you your clutch is going to last long like that but it keeps the wheels hooked. Keep the fluid changed in the master. I think this way will work for you as the juice will not effect the launch. My 60ft is 2.0 car goes 12.6 114. I have well over 200 passes on the car with about 8,500 miles. I have a 150shot and clutch that I haven't installed yet. Hoping for a mid 11 out of it stock engine. Takes alot of practice to get the lauch down I bracket race the car alot
